'81 CB750C "Rock-It" (X-Basket Case)

On my previous builds I have fabbed my own seat pans, either because there wasn't one available or too damn cheap to buy one. This bike will probably be no different. Not too many choices out there for the DOHC Cruiser style "C" model. I have the styrofoam cut, carved and coated with epoxy, Cloth and mat along with the resin already purchased, more or less already know how I am going to mount it....

Then with an accidental slip of the mouse I clicked on the sponcer in the Friends of DTT at the top left of these DTT pages http://slipstreamcycle.com
There I see the same seat that is what I have rolling around in my head! The angle looks about right, dimensions are listed so I need to measure my frame and maybe send an e-mail for more particulars... AND I can afford it!

I would want to build up the front to meet the tank and reconsider rear frame / fender / tail light options but whether it's an Omen, Fate, or Fuck-up I don't know... but I might just pick one up and see how close it realy is.

Looks like the slipstream is tapered in at the back as well so would need building up there as well. Unless you intend modifying that newly painted frame.
I'd stick with what you were originally doing theres just as much work in modifying the new one as completing your own.

Anyhow it looks like something I was going try on a CB900f I'm to start soon. So I'd like to see how it goes, So no self interest here ;D

Agree 200%. A little more research revealed it was originally for a CB350 from a memeber here on DTT who worked with slipstream on the mold. I took the dimensions of the seat out to the frame and did some gozindas. Too short, too narrow, seating position too far forward. I would have to cut up the new seat just to get it close to what I already have. Only thing right was the shape.
Oh well, not like I haven't done this before, I know what and how plus have the design already done... as an added bonus, I kinda like the smell of styrene. ;)

Looking good as always HD.

Strange how we become fond of the smeel of fiberglass, styrene, fuel, oil, burning-heated metal. I can't count the number of times I've walked in the house after smelling those sweet smells only to be shuffled straight toward the shower when trying to cuddle up next to the wife..LOL

Yeah... what the hell is up with THAT ?!
Hopps #9 is one of the BEST smells there is and I can't use it in the house...WTF. Shit I would buy one of those scented candles if it smelled that good. ;D

Oh count me in for that one bottle that smell n sell it , real mens aftershave haha love club level bike races n the worlds greatest the T T isle of man sat here in my living room and sure i can still smell the two stroke wafting up from the pits :'( oh happy days keep it goin fella's ;D

Mmmmmm... 100+ Octane and Burning Rubber. That smell always takes me back.
I pitted for a Front Engine Dragster for a couple summers in my youth, would lay the water in front of the slicks with the zoomies blasting at my face, Then run to the follow up truck as the Digger did the burn out. I would come home every Sunday with the back of my T-shirt covered in rubber. ;)

You have good taste, bud. It's a shame that seat won't work for you. Really nice work so far though.

Long time no update.
In my defence, the Mother-in-law fell and broke her hip, hospital then to a nursing home to rehab... Daughter #2 got some abdominal infection and went to the E.R. and was admitted in the hospital for 3 days... then I caught a cold from hell, went to work every day but then 12 hours sleep afterwards was not enough. ::)
So I been picing at "Rock-It" in what little free time I have had. Got the shims I needed after e-bay purchase yielded wrong sizes sent. Glad I mic'ed them myself before the install. A trip to the local Honda dealer yielded what I needed for $1 exchange of my unused shims.... took 2 visits but got it done.
Installed the right and left controls only to find the drag bars were too close to the tank unless I put them at a wierd downward angle. So another e-bay purchase yielded some NICE Clubmans that have a wider center and less pull-back than the cheap-o Bikemaster / Emgo's. Seller bought them for his new Triumph only to find he needed 1" not 7/8" so he opened these unistalled "used" ones for $19.99 and none of you yokes bid against me so I won. ;D

Also... Don't know if I mentioned what a BITCH it is to find the correct 20mm petcock for this '82 tank! Seems they only made this one for 1 year on the CB750's and CB900's.. The one that I originally got was in bad shape, pit hole in the bowl. So lots of searching and waiting found the proper one in good condition for another $20.

Now if I could just get one of the Fucktards thats doin any one of my Daughters to come over and help me lift this Lump off the bench and onto the dolly, I can get the engine installed in the empty frame. ::)

Wow, that's harsh...hope everyone is well now. If I were anywhere close I'd come help...you know I like red frames and clubmans ;D

yeah, you're probably right.... that was rather harsh. Especially now that one one them actually helped me out the other night. Last night I cleaned up the remainder of the mounting bolts in preperation of setting the engine in the frame the first chance I get this week.

I've fell foul of little Honda wheeze before.

How are you getting the engine in?

I have made a small "Dolly" from when I did my GL. Set the engine on it and the bike on the center stand then roll it in place. Then with only a short way to lift it in position can be adjusted with wood blocks under the engine and my floor jack just fits between to casters to lift the whole thing up.
I do like these bikes with the removable frame section. ;)

Yesterdays progress... ENGINE'S IN!

photobucket-39066-1362261512376_zps5aff3c56.jpg

It's a tight fit to get in place, so I couldn't use the Armaflex pipe insulation I had on the downtubes to protect them and the exhaust studs got into the paint in a couple spots. I'll need to touch it up but I still have some of the original paint left so it will be a good match... really not too bad of a job.
I found I am missing the 2 bolts for the right rear mount bracket to the frame and I will need to visit the hardware store, but we will see how close I can match what the others are, might look into replaceing them all with stainless allen heads. 8)
Now I can progress onward. Poliching the engines side covers and installing the electricals. Probably the next big adventure will be building the exhaust out of the stock pipes the PO cut up and the NOS Mac bits I have picked up...
