81' GN400 Build Cafe/Brat

Looking good! Just started my own GN400 project a couple of weeks ago. I just came across your build and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. I've been trying to decide whether or not to replace the carb with the Mikuni VM carbs. Just wondering why you decided it was best to replace yours. It might be too late, but I have the schematics for the bike in microfiche. Let me know if you need any of them. I need to make another trip to the library to put them all on a USB, but I'd be more than happy to share when I've got them.

My honest advice is to not even screw with the VM series carburetors and stay with the stock CV. I tried EVERY jet possible and with the VM36 my bike would still run too rich. If you are dead set on using a VM I'd say use the VM34.

Thanks for the info. Should I replace it for the VM, I'll be sure to hold to the stock CV just in case.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and figured I would start a build thread. I work at a motorcycle salvage yard in Fresno, CA and I stumbled across this GN400 in the lot one day. The reason it struck me was simply because of the big single and kick start, I had to have it!

So I brought the bike home from work and started tearing it down and turning it into what I want it to be, and this will be my build thread. My build is much inspired by the Holiday Customs GN400 and Cierrecart's GN400, a member on this forum..

So this was the first day that I had the bike..it was pretty ugly haha!

First thing I did when I got it home was check for spark and clean the carburetor. I'm no longer using this carburetor though because I picked up a VM36 at work..

The gas tank was very rusty inside and still is...I need to clean it out still

And here's how it looked after I took everything I didn't like off.

Bro its funny Im doing the same exact thing to my GN400. I had my bike for about 5 yrs now, had her resting last year. I had it bobbered out n decided to bring her home n give her different look. so i started doing this n doing that. So I posted some picks of what im doing n someone had to shatter a dream, but i laughed because Gn400 can b either cafe out or bobbered out. Any advice n help would greatly b appreciated, I wish i knew how to post picks on this.
if u can n have time youll find me on instagram starrinkk thanks n ride safe bro
