Hello friends of the interwebs,
after lurking on here for some time i figured it would be a good time to show my bike.....thing.
Here goes:

so i was lucky enough to start riding as a youngster on dirt bikes. so naturally, as if its really a big surprise, i moved up to real bikes...... sort of. a honda crf450 supermoto was my weapon of choice and it was glorious....still to this day, the most fun i have had semi legally.... until it was stolen

after having my supermoto stolen(see also, worst day ever) i was feeling a void and needed to fill it with another motorcycle. I went on the hunt, scouring through ebay and craigslist and local ads until.... i was on my way to my folks place for some lunch and i passed by a florist that has been there since before i was an itch. for some reason or another i decided to peek into the lot as i was driving by and somehow i manged to focus right onto a rusty old bike that has been sitting outside for long enough to have parts of the earth trying to claim it. obviously, i nearly caused two accidents trying to turn around and go back to said florist for a better look. long story short, the owner of the bike had passed away and his children just neglected it. so they didnt mind at all when i said i would take it off their hands. $100 later i was the proud new owner of this

the plan was to make a bike similar to classified motos virago 920. i had no clue how to make it work but i'd be damned if i didnt try. so i did. disassembly was fairly straightforward, as was modding the rear hoop

oh yeah, go ahead and make fun of my bucket....it'll get better. promise. anywho, back to the story. goin back on the hunt, now for modern inverted forks and an r6 swinger. luckily, ebay rules! within a week i was able to mock up both front and rear ends

and then, looking for tires at a local bike shop, i asked if they had used tires for sale. "nope. can not legally sell them to you.... but if someone were to take a matching set of lightly used tires and (air quotes) dispose of them for me. i wouldn't complain" ;)
battleaxes for the win (btw, i told you guys that the bucket would get better)

this is where things went south for a bit....as i know, we all get a bit excited and try to hurry things up at the end of the build usually to end up taking a lot longer than if one were to do it right the first time. well, while working with a 4" angle grinder on a small piece of flat stock, the disc decided it has had enough and gave up the ghost thus causing the grinder itself to go flying. now on any other occasion i would have just got out of harms way, had a fit of swearing, and kept it moving but no. it just so happened that my mother was the intended target for the, now airborne, grinder. being the awesome son that i am, i managed to grab the power cord attached to said grinder and stop it from wreaking havoc on my mother. i, on the other hand, was not so lucky...(if you are squeemish please keep scrolling passed the following pics)

sucked but it couldnt keep me from finishing my project.... moving on!!!
got myself some yz handlebars and shorty levers, wheels, and took the original 2 into 2 exhaust and made a 2 into 1 that dumps out of a turndown under the bike. also made a seat from some of the old seat foam and an old camping mat. after all that i had to see what she looked like not on a platform. not long after that i realized i had no room for electronics. easy fix, i made an aluminum box that fit inside a hollowed out part of the seat and wham!

i do have the painted completed bike but i dont have any pictures at the moment because they are on my phone and i have to transfer them to photobucket. but more to come soon

Judging by the cuts on your arm, you were using a cut off disc.
You can not lean into a cut off disc , only straight cuts.
A few other things that might cause some concern.
1) swapping exhaust side to side you lose access to the oil
drain plug and oil filter.
2) sprocket alignment with that late model rear rim.
3) upper mono shock mount in proximity to the air inlet of the carbs.

.

rex, you are right with the exhaust being a pain for oil changes but it does clear.....just. i fixed the alignment of the sprockets with an offset front sprocket along with longer bolts and machined spacers for the clutch actuator cover. i was worried i was going to need an outer carrier bearing but so far so good. now for the shock. yea that didnt work out so well the first time around and has since been relocated to a more optimal location for both the carbs and the shock itself.

btw...it was a cutoff wheel on a straight cut and it was my leg

Been there, done that with multiple tools.
And 'blessed' with some scars to remind me.

Cool but we need more pics of that shock mount please.

Looks like the shock went from bad to worse... needs to be behind that backbone with no bones in the linkage department, IDK may be wrong but seems pogo stick ish
