Has anyone modded the backbone to this body cb750 dohc. Im thinking about cutting the two outer pieces so that its a single backbone. Has anyone done this?

Let's have a look at one....

Yep - I wouldn't cut them out and think it's a good idea.

Ive seen where its been rebraced or a bigger stronger piece to replace it. I know its not just for looks but the tank i want to put on doesnt fit.

Alter the tank, not the frame. Structural frame alterations should be reserved for those with the knowledge and experience needed to do so safely. If you need to be told that it is vastly easier to alter the tank than to re-engineer the frame, you would not be one of those people. If you are not up to altering the tank, maybe you should try to find another tank that you like that doesn't require so much to be changed to work. No doubt your frame could be altered to fit the new tank, but not easily or cheaply.

This is where I got this idea..

If you want to actually ride the bike in anger then leave the frame alone.

Sure you can cut those tubes out but those guys are just building ghetto choppers which barely get ridden more than a few blocks so don't trust everything you see on the internet.

As a mechanical engineer with 30 yrs experience in mechanical and structural design and analysis; please do not do this! :-\

"ended up looking like shit. Thank God for grinders! " Notice how he leaves out the photo's of the rest of the welding/bracing?

I rest my case.
