hey brad, so what was the deal with you old tank? is it still useable and are you willing to sell it?

It is junk, not worthy to sell.
When I get my new tank, I will be doing an "in depth" review of Benjie's Cafe Racer gas tanks so everyone can see his products for themselves.
I may also comment on how and how not to do customer service.

Kinda scary especially for what he charges for everything.

0000PaleHorse0000 and Garage Rat, thanks guys.

Still waiting on my Roc City tank so I can finish this thing!

Are you getting a Roc City or Benji Tank?

Had a Benji which went to crap when used with no ethanol racing gas.
Having a Roc City built.

Pro Tip: Learn by my $850 + paint job mistake. Stay away from benji.

OK, got you. I have read a lot of bad press on the Benji, the roc city I hear are much better.

Sean at Roc City makes great stuff.
Buy American.

When I bought, only Benji had dohc tanks.
Full post after I get mine back from Roc City.

cant wait to see what your roc city tank looks like, and they're making one for you specific for the DOHC? and if you don't mind me asking how much did that set you back?

Yes, Sean is making an aluminum tank specifically for my dohc frame although I spec'ed a rear mount about 1.5" back from stock.
Stock mount in front, stock petcock location.

Should be bitchin' good.
Pricing is about the same as on his website.

LOL, I bought a DOHC 750 tank last year on ebay and had it sent to his shop to have him build me one like an RCB. Its probibaly what hes using for yours to mock eveything. Plans fell through on my end and I never got to follow through. I never actually asked him to pay me back for it ether...

Actually, I sent the Benji remains to him for sizing. :)

What a gorgeous bike man, I have an 80 dohc I am in the progress of working on. I only wish I could make mine half as nice as yours. What exhaust did you go with? I was looking at MAC's 4-1 but read some bad things.

Thanks.
I have a Kerker 4-1 I bought off another forum.
Fit was fine, but as you can see I cut up the muffler.

Hey, did you ever get your tank back from Roc City? Can't wait to see that.

Oddly enough, Sean at RocCity is shipping it TODAY!

Frankly, I cannot wait either.

Oh man, can't wait for the pics. Sean does impressive work. I'm saving up some scratch for one myself. I was going to use a 750F tank on my bike, because it's a little bit longer than the LTD tank, but it still has those ugly tabs that they put on for the side covers. Plus I want to use clip ons, and the tank is just way too wide in the front for that, but I don't think it would look good with indents either... The tanks are really the biggest hurdle for these DOHC bikes. Seats can easily be fabbed up out of glass, but the tanks are another story. The wide backbone really limits choices.

Yeah, the lack of tanks was what sent me to azzhat Benjie in the first place.
I'm going to do a little exposé feature on that guy when I get the tank back so no one else makes my expensive mistake.

In retrospect, I should have simply ordered a custom aluminum tank in the first place from a reputable fabricator like Roc City.
Here is a picture of the new tank before polishing:

It is the same length as the old POS tank because I modified my frame to use the rear mount.

Can't wait to see the new tank. Also looking forward to hearing your thoughts on benji's fiberglass tank. I was actually looking at his sheet metal tanks.

What tears me up is that Benjie only charges a couple hundred less for a glass tank than what RocCity charges for alloy. And from the pictures I've seen, it's not what I would expect to pay for that kind of work. If you take a close look at some of the stuff pulled from molds by guys like airtech or GFTP, you don't see any of that stuff going on. And they charge $200-$300 less per tank to boot... At that price I'd risk throwing some caswell in there and trying it out. But neither of them have tanks with channels wide enough to fit the triple tube backbone on our bikes. Oh well... Alloy is better anyway.

That tank is sick. Looks like Christmas is coming early this year!

and the new tank pics show up right after my post haha, way to make me look stupid. Looks great though. Mind if I ask how much that ran you? Obviously I dont want mine to look exactly like yours, but as you know...there isn't a whole lot out there for dohc's(at least that i can find any way).

I did come across this exhaust in my google's at work this morning.
