82 Kawi Spectre 750 Bob/Brat??

Just picked up this 82 Kawasaki Spectre 750 for dirt cheap.. Plan is to make it low and simple. Not sure of what style it will be yet? Bobber?? Brat?? Maybe a mix of everything? Got a lot of the clutter off of it the first night with it in the garage... Couple of questions I have.. Anyone have a link to a simplified wiring diagram?? All I want is headlight, tailight, and for it to run and charge. Seems like an awful lot of wiring and boxes on this thing!! Second... What about this front air suspension? Can I just get rid of lines and valves? Wanting to put forks up through trees a little to lower it but way it is it won't work? Oh and anyone run just a front brake? I see lots of bikes with no front brake but what about no rear brake? Any input is appreciated!! Sure I will have many questions to follow.... I know everyone wants pics but my computer isnt cooperating right now?? Really pisses me off!!! Anyway.. Will try pics tomorrow, maybe I can still get a little insight on my questions?

Not sure if this helps for the wiring but there is simpler ones out there you just have to find them....As for the forks, On my KZ it has Air Shox and I just Loosen'd the tripples and lowered them about an inch and a half

Your pic looks like about how far I want to push my forks through.. Haven't messed with them yet just looks like the air part is directly under the top triple?? I am guessing they don't need air at all and I can just do away with it??

not sure if you can do away with it...I'd have to see a picture....But if they are below the triple and are required you might be able to put the triple beneath it if you take the forks apart to service them....catch my drift?

Got some more done tonight, entire wiring harness stripped, cut off a bunch of tabs and starting grinding them all smooth, got ugly stock bars off and using a piece of tubing for mock up. Probably go with superbike style bars? Need to find a tank for this thing... Stock one is full of rust and a little big for my liking, don't wanna cut the backbone or anything just want something smaller.. Any suggestions? Camera was dead so didn't take any new pics tonight but will tomorrow. Still can't get the ones I have to load??

I scour craigslist for any and everything I need... you should have no problem picking up a sportster tank or any tank on there just have to look people on here have parts for sale too.....as for pictures they are probably too big you should reduce the size and save them, then they should upload

I'll sell you this Suzuki Tank for $10 plus shipping Inside is clean and it has a petcock sorry sportster tank is getting a new tunnel and going on my SR

It looks like you'd need that to add air .....weird that it's on the front I havn't seen one like that ....as for a straight forward swap a set of Kz 750 tubes may slide right in 37mm I believe ....other than that you could find out the steering tube size of your set of forks then try and find a modern pair (gsxr1000, 636, etc) with a similar size .... Then new head stock bearings and you may want to run the entire front end Wheel and all so your not trying to find or make axels & spacers and brake mounts etc....

I would love to do a modern sportbike front end swap but cash is tight and tryin to get this thing together cheap?? I will do some searching though... If I could find some that fit my tube and all that was required was bearings I would do it. Seems like all the builds I have looked at with sportbike front ends they had to have spacers machined or change the stem or do something that makes it far from a fairly simple swap.

here is the thread with the fork diameters it's 36mm (double check before you get something)

I bet someone on here that has done a Modern swap would be more than happy to sell off there stock tubes for cheap they may do the entire front end if they didn't use the stock wheel or brakes
you'd just have to find them either in the for sale section or someone doing a build that hasn't posted their stuff for sale yet

Wasn't in the garage tonight... just some lurking around gettin ideas. Thanks for the info on the forks, found some kz 1000 tubes on e bay for decent prices. I think I will tear mine apart next and see what I can do with them? Think I want to run a bratstyle seat, after looking at other examples and looking at mine I am going to have to get rid of the piece of rear frame that steps up and relocate my upper shock mounts at the rear of the triangle. Seems a lot of ikes had them mounted there originally?? Of course mine wouldnt!!

Not much progress, did some grinding on other side of triangle last night that was about it. Picked up an exhaust I'm going to use tonight. Unsure how I want to mount it? Fairly normal position or pointing straight up in the air? Took some pics of it each way to get an idea... Obviously I will have to do some pipe bending but you can get the idea.. Any opinions??

I like the high, level mounting. Something about big, vertical muffler cans bothers me. Too Mack-truck for my liking...
Nice looking machine though!

Got my new bars on and lowered the front a little. Cut the stock fender down some to see if I like the look?? Undecided? Got a couple different tanks, one is from a KZ 650 and the other is a CB 360 tank. Thought I wanted a smaller tank but the big one is growing on me? Can't figure out what the hell I'm going to do for a seat? Also got some new pod filters waiting to go on after carbs are cleaned. Shorter rear shocks are next to order.

that front fender can work with a little more lovin'. where you have those real sharp angles on the bottom edge, try cutting it with a more flowing curve, and i think you'll be more set on it. here's a very crude example of what i mean, but hopefully you get the idea, haha.

also, if you don't end up using that 360 tank, i'd be willing to take it off your hands for you! :D

I plan to do some more cutting on the fender, I just chopped it off quick with the sawzall to have an idea? Still undecided on the tank? I like the 360 tank but makes my seat problem even more difficult....

gotcha. sorry, i thought you were looking for suggestions. i got confused by you ending most of your sentences with question marks while not actually posing a question, ha.

no harm no foul, i just looked at my response and realized i came off as sounding scorned. didn't mean for that at all, haha. but dang, i keep looking at your pics, and as much as i want you to sell me that 360 tank, i can't help but feel it looks awesome on your bike!
