Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build: I hate you

Any reason you're running such a warm plug. Stock should be an 8, no?

Just thought I would give the 6ES a try. Stock for my year is 7ES I believe and what's been in it.

Did a warm compression test.

Left: 60
Right: 70

This seems very low, right?

Seems low. The quote below seems pretty consistent amongst fellow owners.

"With a warm engine and with the trottle wide open, 156 psi. And the service limit is 109 psi. With a cold engine you can expect a lower reading."

Interesting, I'm searching in my manual to find the limit. Started to tear her down after I mowed yesterday so the head is almost ready to come off. Then I'll just pull the engine to make it easier to if I need to do anymore work. Plus I want to re-paint the block.

Quick shots after I mowed before she got torn down :(

This is true, yet depressing. Not sure how to explain how I feel after all the time with the little details and this happens. Oh well, happens with all types of builds. After my Jeep, bagged trucks and my car builds there is always something that happens when a project is "complete".

Dont give up a bike that looks that good is just begging to be ridden. Btw did you cut the seat loop or is it unmolested?

Gauge is brand new Matco unit. Yes, done at WOT both times.

Surprised as well. 2 years ago before the build it had 120-ish I believe.

Not giving up that's for sure. Thank you for the compliment! Seat hoop is stock didn't cut it up. I only de-tabbed, removed center stand, removed rear peg mounts/exhaust mounts.

Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build: I hate you

Crappy, are the valves ok? Adjusted correctly? I had low compression approx 70 psi on my CX and it was a tight intake valve, Adjusted it up and it went to 155.

Did you do a "wet" test too? If the compression improves it could be rings/pistons; if not it could "only" be valves.

Compression did not improve. Stayed the same, within in a few psi

Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build: I hate you

Dumb question, but the valve clearances aren't too tight, are they?
