hey everyone this is my first ever build im 23 yrs old im hoping all goes well. i picked up this nice gs 650 for $750 i have been working on it through out the winter so i do have a bit done to it already but figured ive been looking at this forum for a wile, might as well post my build see what yall think and hopefully get some pointers. these are the stock pics of the bike when i got it will get updated pic of where i am soon
ha thanks man, here are a few more pics of where i am at right now i made the front fender shorter cleared out the middle frame and old air box replaced with some DCC volacity stacks. hid elec under the seat. bent a 180 rear tube still not fully welded on might need to shorten up a bit. and started making a seat.
Welcome to the fold. You might want to consider moving the rectifier/regulator under the box so it gets some airflow - those fins are to let heat off and you've surrounded it with insulation.
haha yes im in need of some new rubbers the front tire as well has a pritty nice patch job on it to lol. i went on my lunch and flipped the rectifier to the bottom works out great and cleans up the inside area nicely thanks for the input!
so ive got a ? on some new shocks for the back. need some input on what ones to get and how long. my stock ones are 12.50" eye to eye. i feel like if i dont get the right ones if i hit a big enough bump it may couse my back bar to hit my wheel witch will i think acted like an ebrake. not good. I my self cant make it fully bottom out by jumping or pushing on it but does come very close
ya i cut off the end of my frame to where i wanted it, and my stock frame is 1"od and i think 3/4" id so i picked up the same size steel tubing bent it 180 and found some 3/4" od tubing or can be solid plugs and pushied it into the 180 bend half way and then into the frame wholes the other half of the plug. but i welded the plug into the 180 bent tubing first before puting it into the frame so i wouldn't loose the plugs in my frame ha
Alright! Another GS on here. When I started lurking, it seemed that the GS crew was a little slim, but I'm starting to think that's not as true.
Like what you've done with the bike so far man. Mind posting up a little bit of explanation on flipping that rectifier? Looks really clean and I'd like to attempt something similar. Also any helpful words on hiding the electric under the seat is welcome, too. Can't wait to see what you get done.
What are you using for a license plate/tailight mount?Your frame plugs should have holes drilled into the sides of the frame tube and rosette welds to make it stronger. While your method does strengthen the joint somewhat it is minimal because the load is on the joint and all the welds are there also. Not a fan of the seat but it ain't my bike.
I think the seat has good potential. Just doesn't flow with the tank at all. I'll reserve my opinion till i see the finished product. You know what they say about opinions.
