I bought this bike (the one in my profile pic) as a semi-running old beast (the previous owner spent several minutes with starter fluid to get it running so I could ride it home). Previous work includes: cleaned carbs, cleaned rust out of tank, replaced battery, replaced fuel lines and filter, changed oil and filter, replaced crappy front tire (back was new), replaced control cables, replaced clutch lever (dumb mistake-dropped it in the driveway), changed hydraulic fluid and flushed front brake line, cleaned up wiring, got rid of sissy bar/luggage rack, replaced old square mirrors with round ones, replaced superbike bars with clubmans.

Upcoming ideas: paint (the bike is registered as red, so at least the tank is getting that), new spark plugs, strip fenders (they're chrome underneath), get rid of the ugly grab rail, and hopefully put on one of Roc City's seats...the Roadster looks like it should fit nicely.

Here's my dilemma/plan: I'm a broke grad student, so I'd like to make this bike versatile enough to take longish trips on (a riding buddy lives 4 hours upstate), and ride two-up with the gf on occasion. So my plan is to make the cafe seat removable, and rebuild the stock seat and make it look a bit nicer/thinner, so I can swap back and forth. I'm not going to use rearsets, since I'll need the passenger pegs. Plus, I'm going to get an alternative set of bars, so I can swap between clubmans and something taller (the Flattracker bars from Dime City look pretty good), for longer rides. That way I can go from a solo cafe racer to a two-up flatrack-style bike with a more upright riding position in a few minutes with a wrench.

Thoughts or ideas? I'm still away at school at the moment, so I thought I'd start this thread to throw ideas around, and I'll add pictures and updates as I start actually working on her.

Good luck man and I know how you feel about being a broke grad student :( ...Anyways, I think having versatility in your setup is a cool idea...Keep me posted!

Not much progress yet-some paint on the tank and swapped the bars back to tracker bars for now, and a roc city seat and dime city quarter fairing waiting to be installed when I get home for the summer-tonight! I'll post pics once I do something worth seeing :)
