I make things.
here's a little project I've been tinkering with for a while, I always wanted to

a: get rid of the annoying speedo cable that buggers up the front end
b: not worry about how off my speedometer is, or that running a smaller rim will throw everything off
c: have a nice clean speedometer with no wires or things hanging out
d: have a speedo whose needle isn't bouncing around so much I have to do math to know how fast I'm going

so here's the solution, tiny gps module that gets a real fast fix, running into a tiny mcu that decodes the signal, figures out the speed, and outputs to an rc servo that moves a needle. once stuffed into an old speedo housing, you'll never know it's got that stuff in it, but will wonder why there's no cables :)

it's pretty blurry, i took it with my camera phone when driving

probably not, i wanted to finish this one up because we're building an xs650 and wanted to run an 18 on front, and clean up the front end as much as possible

it's a pic, was thinking about playing with the idea more sometime and adding something where it records your travel onto a flash card, so if you go find some awesome roads you can download it to your pc and see where you went, but that's in the future, i've got to get this one permanently wired and enclosed for now

Very nice. I use arduinos for little projects occasionally.

This is a very cool project. I was wondering if you would like to share some more details of the parts you are using? I'm most curious about the GPS module. The servo is a cool idea for a output device. I always think LED's or LCD's. How does the speed of the servo keep up to the acceleration of the vehicle? I guess for a speed indicator it would work well but maybe not so much for a tachometer. Love ALL the stuff you are doing!
