A take on fake

I wasn't going to post this project yet, but my youngest son I should put it on here. ( He loves going for rides on this one with me. ) This is currently my rider. I don't plan on tearing the bike down till next year. I've been collecting parts, getting pieces re-plated, and getting small parts powder coated as I get time and money. I have been doing little things here and there to it. I guess I am going for a fake weekend racer/weekday rider look on it. I made the number plates out of aluminum and numbered them and striped them myself.

This is a good opportunity to ask everyone's opinion on the paint. I am powder coating the chassis back gloss black, re-plating all the chrome, polishing all the aluminum, and polishing and painting the motor. That being said! Should I leave the original paint in all its faded scuffed up glory, or since all the rest of it will be fresh looking, repaint all the tins?

I'd leave it, gives it that "used on the street" look. If you're worried about it not matching the "patina", I'd scuff the number plates up a bit instead of the original paint. Like you said, you made the number plates yourself, so I'm assuming you don't have a bunch of money tied up in them for someone else to paint them.

I'd take the fake plates off, polish it and ride it. Would be a shame to paint it when it doesn't need it. Original bikes are getting fewer and fewer and it's nice to see some survive and be ridden.

I agree. My original cb350 was great I feel stupid for chopping and painting it rather than finding a shabbier one. I know there was 250000+ out there but one day I'm sure I'll regret it.....

I don't plan on chopping this bike up fellas. It will look pretty much how it does now when I get it finished. I am just going to strip chassis and powder coat it back gloss black. I'm having all the tired chrome re-plated and all the aluminum re-polished. The paint is tired looking as well and has several scratches in it that won't buff out. Some of the top surfaces of the plastic parts are starting to sun fade real bad as well. The paint has a nice patina to it though. The rusty chrome and rusty chassis need to be redone before they get worse. There are other areas that need attention for safety concerns as well. The steering bearings! They gotta go. The uncaged balls are out. I have a tapered bearing conversion bought for it already. The tired wheel bearings are getting replaced as well. I have no intention of hacking this bike up. It is to much fun as it is. It just needs tidied up a bit. Still can't decide whether to paint it or not. ;D
