Aftermarket Gauges

Been Around the Block
I'm looking for some aftermarket gauges for my 1973 CB500. I want something simple and inexpensive that won't require too much effort to install (I realize in most cases this is asking too much). I found a Bikers Choice mini-speedometer I liked but I couldn't find a matching tach. I also found some gauges that were all inclusive, tach with digital speedo + indicator lights, they were really expensive though. What else is out there?

Have you checked out Acewell? Pretty decent stuff for a decent price as well. My speedo/tach/computer was about $130 shipped. Comes with everything you need, just wire it up and go.

Sometimes the answer is so simple. It'd have taken me weeks to just go to JC Whitney on my own.

One question, on the tach it specifies two models, one for Yamaha and one for Kawasaki, which one would work for a Honda?

www.mikesxs.com has a bunch of gauges, specific to Yamaha but some might work with the Honda.

I would be wary on universal mechanical tachs or tachs made for models other than your bike. The tach on your bike has a specific drive ratio that allows the rpm's to be correctly displayed on your original tach. You will want to find a tach that shares this drive ratio otherwise the RPMs will not be displayed correctly. Sadly in my case, I had to scrounge up a used working original tach for my CB360.

EDIT: Just thought I would mention that i was told on another site that the same drive ratio is shared between the 360, 400, 500, and 550. I cannot vouch for this though since I ended up finding an original 360 tach for my bike. Good luck.
