AGM battery trouble

Emptygrace

Im young but im ready for any challenge
I recently bought a smaller AGM battery, was planning on relocating it under my seat hump on my suzuki GS450. Fits perfectly, but when i connected it all up to the lines (exactly how i would connect the stock battery) it would simply just tick. Doesnt seem to have the juice, even with full charge.

This is the battery that i purchased http://www.impactbattery.com/gt7b-4-adventure-power-ut7b-4-yamaha-battery.html

the "specs" and "product fits" tabs are useful, but hoping this a member here who has more knowlegde with the AGM batteries.

Thanks - Empty

If it was a pre-filled AGM, it may have been sitting in a warehouse so long that it was dead. AGM batteries store better than flooded cell batteries, but if it sat for any length of time in an uncharged condition, it is junk. Take it to your local auto parts store and have it load tested.

Okay and thankyou for the quick reply. Being that i do not have a tester ready available to me, i will bring it to a shop to have it tested. I really hope that this battery is toast, it would be a great addition to my project, but i'll have to wait and see.

I had 2 AGM batteries for my 79 yamaha xs650. The first one was dead on arrival from a well known xs650 supplier. He sent another for free and it lasted about 3 months before it too went dead and would not hold a charge. I have since gone back to the conventional wet battery with no further problems..... AGM batteries are not the best choice for these old bikes, IMO. Charging voltages above 14.2 V dries them out and they die because they have so very little electrolyte in them. Flooded cell batteries tolerate the higher voltages these old systems put out because we can add water to them as needed.

Great information guys thanks a lot! Guess ill stick with the stock battery for now, instead of dealing with the headaches like George got.
