As the title states, I am looking for air filters for a girl friend's 1971 CB350 twin. Hers are old and shot. She is keeping the bike stock for now -- it looks great, sidecovers in great shape, etc. I've found stock (or at least stock looking) filters on Ebay for $83 + $12S&H. I've found non-stock options (e.g. K&N), but am not sure if they will work under the side covers. Anyone want to chime in and let me know if they've found stock filters for cheap somewhere, or if they've ran something else under the sidecovers that works fine? Stock exhaust, stock jets in carbs, and would like to keep it that way. Thanks!

Also: Anyone ever simply replace the filter elements on the stock filter housing? New CB350F/400F filters are as cheap as $10 -- wonder if I could just buy those, pull off the old elements and replace with new?

I have a 1971 cb350 with stock exhaust and I went with the Uni foam filters. I did not have to change the stock jetting and it runs great. I Ditched the airbox but I do still use the covers, mainly because I like how they look.

I've done set ups like that too and it worked out well. The kit for the CB350 even comes with a plastic sheath for the rod between the side covers.

Cool, thanks guys. So the Uni filters are about $35 a pair. DJ, can you explain the plastic sheath bit? I know how the side covers fit on and are attached by the bar that runs through them, but how would that work for the uni-filters? In other words, where does the bar run -- above, below or through the filters? And another question: do the filters fit fine under the side covers, without poking out anywhere, and do the side covers fit back perfectly? Again, thanks guys.

I didn't realize you could change the air filters and keep the side covers, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a good 35 dollar investment.

Without the air boxes the brass piece that threads onto the rod has nothing to seat against. The plastic sheath fills the void. I'll admit, it took me a second to figure out what it was for the first time.
