Air Pods and Side Covers?

Hey everyone!
Im an eighteen year old guy and I've been getting into motorcycles via a restoration of a 73 cb450. I don't know any experienced riders/mechanics to ask basic questions to so please forgive me if this seems obvious. Anyway, my stock air filter is spent--all caked in grime and whatnot. If I replace the boxes with pods can I still use the side covers? I want to keep the matching side covers/tank.
Thanks, Jon

Sure you can still use the side covers, provided they don't physically get in the way of the pods. Just know that changing from the stock air filter to pods will require rejetting your carburetors and can be A LOT more headache than expected.

Not trying to tell you what to do with your bike or discourage you from changing to pods, just know that its not going to be a simple filter switch and back on the road. Learning to properly setup your carbs and how they operate is fundamental in owning an old bike.

guys usually get pods for the clean look, if your going to keep the side covers, find the stock airbox/ airfilter in good condition, it will be cheaper and less frustrating.
