All you Honda nuts, I got one for ya!

If it don't fit, you're not trying hard enough!
Was chatting with my boss and a salesman today and my boss was talking about a bike that a buddy of his is rebuilding. Now, my boss doesn't know anything about bikes other than his plasticy, ugly DL1000, let alone know what he's talking about with vintage stuff. He said it's a Honda, CB550, and from the way he described it, it has Comstars or at least something like it. Then he goes on to describe the brakes. He says that there's double disc up front and a single rear. But they're not normal. He says they're enclosed in the massive hub, but you can see the calipers and everything still. Does he just not know a drum when he sees one?

Now, he also said that this guy first rode this bike in the early 70's on a trip across the States. He says it's red with a white stripe (down the sides?). He was given the bike, as the original owner bought it for his wife new way back in the day, who never rode it, and now they're divorced. My boss's buddy is the only one who has ever ridden it. Just a few little facts.

Anybody with an idea of what I'm talking about, please post some pics and info as it's peaked my interest and curiosity.

This is the closest bike I can think of: CBX550. Your boss may be off a decade.....

That actually looks really close to the way he described it. I shall show him tomorrow and see if it"s what he thinks.

It's a shame that the CBX550 wasn't sold in the US; I wanted one pretty badly, only partly because it used the futuristic wheels from the CX500T / CX650T Turbos... The brakes might have been a bit odd, but I really lusted after one of those critters back in the day...

Well, I suppose I could always move to Canada and find one in mint condition, eh?

That was the first bike I bought back about 15 years ago. Available in Canada only in 1983. Cool little bike but mine was in bad shape and I didn't know how to wrench so I traded it in. The front disks were cast iron and tended to rust so they mounted these ugly plastic shrouds to hide them. I just saw one recently on the road.
