Alloy tank and Manx seat on 1972 XS650 frame

Just wanted to drop a post in here covering the details of this seat/tank/frame combo.

1972 frame with the loop behind the rear shocks removed and a tab put in place near the steering column to hold the tank mounting strap.

Stock front tank mounting cups removed from frame.

The alloy tank I have then sat perfectly on the frame. Just a bit of padding underneath on the top tube and at the back end of the tank and then the strap to hold it down.

The seat is a Manx style seat from www.clubmanracing.com - fibreglass base with vinyl. It is made for a Norton wideline featherbed frame, commonly used in Triton builds. Fits the XS650 frame like it was made for it.

I do like the tank and seat combo I have been snooping around the old threads. I might have to condiser this for my next reincarnation of my bike.

So.. when do you want me to come by and stick studs & spikes all over that seat of yours?? ;D

I can't put into word show sexy that seat/tank combo is, near identical to the look I am going for with my bike

Well, go check out my XS650 Project thread for a REALLY sexy looking tank. I've picked up a second alloy tank that I'm going to be using instead of the one in the pics above.

I know this idea is going to take years but I am setting out to build something similar. very nice

I picked the tank up locally, having found it in an eBay auction. It was a fluke finding an auction that was with a guy locally.

I've since sold that tank and bought another one which was made by Evan Wilcox (Google him). I bought that tank in Edmonton from one of the members here along with a bunch of other bits.

Check out my project thread for more details on the tank/seat mounting.

hey would you mind telling us the size of the tires front and rear on your bike? im looking to fit the same sized (or similar) on my cb550, just gaging if it is possible. Thanks

Damn Tim,your Yamaha just gets better and better!

Of course the Norton Manx Racer is my FAVORITE bike of all time to look at even though I have NEVER seen one in real life!
I wish I knew where an old racer was in Indy/south central Indiana. I would be so up for a road trip to view one and take lots and lots of pictures. ;D

I love the fact that your building yours with the same style/look as the Nortons, great job!

That's very nice, beautiful job, but daaaamn...that latch being where it is, sure hope you never experience rapid deceleration while riding that thing.

Speaking of that latch...where did you get that piece? I could use one for one of my bikes...
