I had an email letting me know about this show in North London. There is the possibility of a club stand for up to 8 bikes. Anyone interested?

Here's the link

All the best

Keep us posted POD......that's not too far from Dover. We have a Gt500 and a Gt750 not far off done, we could certainly bring them, plus a variety of old Hondas to make the numbers up if needed.

Here's a comical story about the Ally Pally.

I owned a limo business for a few years, and used one of my cars for me and my mates to travel to a few events such as bike shows on occasion. Knowing my Lincoln would not fit in the car park at the AP, I phoned a few days before hand and asked if they had somewhere I could leave it on the day. They were very helpful, and told me it was no problem, and I would be directed by a marshall on arrival.
Just as they had said, I was directed to an area at the end of the building with ample space to leave the limo. As the ragtag assembly of bodies spilled from the car, beer bottles in hand, bike jackets, jeans etc, another security man approached, and said "ah, you must be the people from Honda?". We all looked at each other, and one or two of us started to tell him that in fact we weren't from Honda, but he took no notice and was too busy ushering us to a small doorway....where we were greeted by several more security people addressing us as sir and madam (there was 1 girl), and leading us directly into the main hall. By this time, our mouths were all tightly shut, and all nine of us gained entry entirely free. Result !!

Ok guys, I'll contact the organisers and try to book us a stand. Apparently there is enough room for up to 8 bikes. Thanks for the interest.

Great story about the limo. My uncle is disabled and you wouldn't believe the number of shows where the disabled parking is amongst the traders vehicles. Got away without paying at Stafford for about 3 years before they altered the parking arrangements.

Cool is that a BSA tank?

Well I spoke to the organisers and they are interested so I've sent the forms off and will keep you all informed.

Having recently joined Camerons millions, I might just get something new built for the show too. I've now got the time but a minimal budget. However I do have 1 1/2 Gsx250's in the shed and a spare cafe seat - watch this space!

Hello all,

Good news - Just received an email to say that we have a stand at Ally Pally.
The organisers are going to send me further info on setting up and stand requirements etc. So as soon as I know more, I'll pass on the info and we can start to organise the stand.

Andy and All,
I have a couple of suggestions as follows:

1. It may be time to think about formulating / finalising an attendance list, no maybes, possibly and hopefully, just definite....maybe a cut off date for names.
2. Does everyone fancy having a banner for the stand? if so need suggestions i.e. DTT Shed Builds...I can sort if agreeable to all....I would post a proof for agreement.
3. I can get a good rate from one of the local hotels in the area (my customers) question is, for how many?
4. Apart from being a bit of a Show and Tell, this would be a great opportunity to promote UK shed built bikes, suggest we have some give away stickers made...I can sort if agreeable to all.....agian, a proof would be posted for agreement.

Plenty to open discussion, and I look forward to helping as needed.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi Dave,

I agree we need to get organised but didn't want to jump the gun until I've received the details such as setup times, stand size and location etc.

Bear with me and I'll pass on all the info as soon as I have it.

Sorry Mate,

You are right I have probably jumped the gun a tad, I'll calm down and take a couple of deep breaths.

One thing that needs to be addressed asap though is any accommodation needs, there's not alot of local rooms left and I need to book a twin as soon as.
Assuming that we can set up on Friday pm, me and Jimbo72 will be staying over on Friday & Saturday nts, calling in at the Ace on the way, Friday pm.

Cheers
Dave

Well guy's, I've finally heard back from the organisers and we are good to go but as with all indoor shows, there are a few restrictions which will affect us.

All stands and vehicles must be in place by 8pm on Friday. We have all day on Friday to set up the stand but nothing can be added or removed from the stand until the show finishes at 5.30 on Sunday. Unfortunately this means for most us taking Friday off work and a late return home on Sunday.

All vehicles must have the tanks drained whilst on show. This is a fire safety issue. I'm sure that if you wish to ride you bike down, I can bring some jerry cans which we can drain the tanks into and transfer back to the bike on Sunday. There is free parking at Ally Pally, so we can keep a vehicle on site to store these in.

Our stand will not be provided with electric unless we want to pay for a socket point. This must be arranged with the organisers at a cost of around £100. I think a socket would be useful (kettle and a few lights). Maybe we share the cost of this between us.

Internet and mobile phone connections are poor in the main halls (but ok in the bar!) so this and the cost of the electric rather buggers up my plans for having a laptop on the stand so we can show people the site. However if we do go for paying to have a socket I have a laptop that I could bring down and could make up a slide show of the site and some of our bikes.

We need to provide everything for our stand including the rope barriers (I can sort this bit out) and the dividers/backdrop for the stand.

The organisers recommend that we organise your own insurance.....

I know must of the above sounds rather negative but is actually normal for an indoor show

Good news - we can sell club regalia and promotional materials on the stand. Interested TJ?

I hope none of this has put you guys off the idea so please let me know if you're still up for it. I'm happy to bring the car up on Saturday and we can pile in and on down to the ace in the evening. I'm sure this will still be a laugh and a great way to promote the Forum.

Thanks guys..

Sounds good pod.

Is it just the standard entry fee for us if were planning on showing in this stand?

The stand is roughly 6m x 6.5m and having the socket would be the only expense, we will get issued with exhibitors passes, allowing us and possibly a few friends free entry for the weekend.

Depending on what we want we do with the stand, we would have make our own back drops, banners etc. We basically have a section of floor space and that's it.
Andy

Pod,

I've just returned from abroad and read the latest info............

That's a bugger, I'm booked in for meeting up with a group at the ACE for the Friday night Rock'n Classics bash. As all display bikes have to be billeted by the Friday night that unfortunately counts me out.

I will be staying over on the Friday night and attending the Ally on Saturday, so my offer still stands for any help that may be needed and any stand material such as banners...just ask.

I'm sure there's plenty of other like minded amateur shed builders available who can attend, see you all on Saturday.

That's a shame MCR but look forward to seeing you on the Saturday.
The battery idea may work but we would probably need a fresh one each day which adds to the hassle factor.

Maybe we should keep it simple, a few bikes and info boards (and chairs) in a roped off area..
