Almost Afraid to Ask...

Been Around the Block
I said, "almost."

I've got my eye on a couple of Airtech Streamling seat options for my fat-butt Yamaha, but was just curious... has anyone had any experience with these ABS plastic seats sold on ebay? How's their quality? Do they hold up in the sunlight and general use? Personally, I don't put much faith in them, but would like to hear from someone who has actually bought one.

The seller in the following example has several posted, but they seem similar in construction:

For $90 bucks, I'd say give it a shot. If you paint it, you don't have to worry about UV rays damaging it. But plastic is a little different to work with - it will melt with any high-speed sanding drilling, etc.

plastic is a bit more tricky to paint correctly. you need to take more time sanding and priming then with glass or metal. if you really like it, i say give it a shot.

YUP, abs is fine just make sure to paint it, running bare for too long and the UV will get to it.
The fairing on my Triumph is ABS and has held up beautifully since '96...

edit: my typing however has sucked for much longer!

What they said. The Buell plastics on my bike are ABS as well. It's actually really nice. It's ding resistant too. Has flex unlike fiberglass. When you paint, just get an adhesion promoter like Bulldog and you'll do just fine!

Wow! The positive feedback kinda motivates me to give one a whirl. I've got an odd bike for this project... a '95 Seca II. I've seen a couple of them that have been cafe'd online and they turn out pretty cool, but still not common. You can get anything you want for a CB750, but not so much for the Yammie. This thing is 12.5" inches at the widest, about where the butt stop would be. I'm not too keen on fabbing up my own fiberglass seat so the Airtech products look quite do-able. But maybe I try one of these first for the fun of it.

I've seen the seat you mentioned above for some time, but never really looked into it. Let us know how the seat works out for you if you do go with one. I've run into a dilemma with my bike and I'm stuck with one of two options: buy a seat that is well made (a few notable DTTers come to mind), or try to make a seat that will hopefully survive past the creation point. With my apparently limited work time, I'm leaning towards option A (mostly so I can get some much-needed saddle time).
