I know there are a few out there that can be fitted up. I'd hoped to fit one that I recently purchased for a different project but it's just too wide and couldn't be machined enough to fit. Thus I'm wondering what will fit with a little trimming?
I use pre 97 Katana ones, Gs 500 is a little shorter and narrower.
Yamaha Diversion are suppose to bolt straight in.
You would be better off perusing here http://xs650temp.proboards.com/index.cgi?
You're right PJ, but I know there are a couple members here who have made the swap and since this is "home" I figured I'd throw it out here first..
I was hoping for a relatively simple aluminum box section conversion with a couple extra inches in length, something the 6fiddy desperately needs for handling as it's a pretty heavily rearward biased bike. I knew about the radian swinger, someone here had one but wanted like...$350 for it.
I will look into the GS arm though, thanks the the lead! Same for the Diversion too.....great info.
Also thanks for the links both of you, I am familiar but not very present at both.
As mentioned, the Radian swingarm is a drop in replacement.
The swingarm from a 1986-91 FZR600 works as well. You will have to grind down the swingarm bosses on the inside of the frame to get it to fit. This is one fitted to my project XS650.
The Radian isn't as drop-in as some might think. You do have to re-align the shock mounts, at least I had to in order to fit one to my 1972 XS650 frame, which admittedly is a bit different from all subsequent frames.
I have an FZR600 swinger at home modded to fit the XS. In my case the swingarm itself was narrowed. It fits - I've bolted it into my SR500 frame for fun, but it interfered with the rear brake pedal mechanism.
I'll probably be putting it up for sale soon. Been collecting dust for a few years.
Will your 600 swinger clear a 160 tire?
What do you think you'd want shipped to 97124?
My 'Plan B' is to add 2" to the OE swinger and add a bottom loop brace. It'll clear the 900rr rear rim I'm fitting (with the stretch), but I'd still rather a box section....
Well lemme get some pics of the thing and see what's shaking. In anticipation of using it on my SR500, I even recently bought another set of axle adjusters / axle, as I didn't have the rear axle for it, and the adjusters I had were bored out to 20mm.
Turns out the stock axle is 17mm, just like the SR and maybe the XS? So it even has the adjusters and axle. Also has a mount for the drum brake stay, as well as of course the shock mounts on it. Its in nice shape with recent black finish (paint or powder I don't know).
Here are some pics from 3 years ago when I didn't know what it was. Wishing I'd have kept the Radian arm - would be nice on my SR. But these days the Radian arms go for big bucks. Sold that one all ready for the XS and freshly powdercoated for $230 I seem to recall.
Yeah I wonder.....
had briefly considered narrowing the swinger i have but I can't find anyone local willing to weld an aluminum swinger back together.
let us know what you decide on price wise...
If you only want a 2" stretch you would be better off working on stock XS arm.
Just about everything else is at least 4" longer.
You can see what a 4" over arm looks like on my Yamaha build (it's a Katana 600 arm with monoshock)
