Alternative tanks for a 1973 Honda CB 350

I recently purchased a 1973 Honda Cb350 , however the tanks wasn't anything too great so i will be needing a new one. I am going for the cafe racer look and was wondering what other gas tanks fit on a 1973 Honda CB350 frame? I really like the chrome sides looks of a Honda CB160 gas tank, would that fit? Open to all suggestions and knowledge of alternative fitting tanks. Thanks!

First off, welcome to DTT. There is a lot of information already available on this site that you should be able to find using the search feature in the upper left hand corner of the screen. I also occasionally do a google search using the phrase "site:dotheton.com [search terms]", which produces better results when you're looking for something very specific.

As to your question, there are a number of tanks that have been fitted on CB350s, but it depends on your definition of "fit". Almost any other year CB350 tank will work on yours without any modification, as will most CL350 tanks. CL tanks are typically shorter than CB model tanks, though, so there may be a larger gap in between the tank and seat. For any other tank, you will likely need to modify the front and rear tank mounts on the frame and possibly enlarge the tunnel under the tank in order to get a solid fit. I have seen CB350s with tanks from larger Hondas, similar size Yamahas (RD350, etc), and even some old school chopper tanks, so anything is probably possible with a bit of work.

thanks for the welcome! i did try to use the search function before posting to little results unfortunately . How difficult is it to really widen the tunnel, because i have access to touches that could heat the metal to the point where i could manipulate it, but i have never done anything like that ( this is my first bike). I do have some metal work experience , but it doesn't go beyond a home made forge in the garage haha. The problem is allot of the tanks id like are $300+ so id really hate to purchase it and then completely ruin a perfect tank trying to make it fit . Id love to hear from some members who have done some tank mods or as i said earlier someone with CB 350 who has put a different tank on there bike.

Dont heat a tank with a torch gas fumeswill blow up
been known to happen . that said ...
I have the option of flooding the tank with an inert gas as argon or carbon dioxide .
I've had good luck with a hot water rinse but I don't trust it . Several times I've repeatedly rinsed a tank but heating drove out the remaining fumes out and caused at least one disconcerting WOOOSHTHUMMMMP!
even when flooding the tank with inert gas it argon will displace the combustible gases and they have to go somewhere .
My best results have been with near complete filling with water and the remainder inert gas .

it's your eyebrows
