Aluminum bar ends

Screwing things up daily
I was wondering if anyone on here would have the capability to fabricate some bar end caps for me. I have some cool grips that I put on my bike that are pretty much designed to have bar ends inserted into the bars so they are open on the end. I would just buy the bar ends that this manufacturer makes, but my bars ends are filled in (vibration dampening maybe?). So, what I really need is a bar end that will slide OVER the end of the bar and clamp down with a set screw. I'm looking for something that's about 1 1/2" long, 1 1/4" diameter and just natural (or brushed) aluminum.

Anyone on here that would be able to make something like this? If so, how much would that run (ballpark, of course)?

Thanks in advance,
Beardking

How would this look different from the finish of the bars that would be exposed by the holes in your grips? This will of course force you to run your grips further up the bars - do you have room for this with the controls etc.?

I'm sure there are lots of folks here who could whip up caps like this on a lathe. You must really really like these grips!

Another option would be to simply open up the ends of your bars to accept standard bar-ends.

Well, there is about 3/8" of my bars sticking out past my grips, so I wouldn't have to move the grips in any as long as I could get the set screw located in this area.

I've thought about trying to open up the ends of the bars, and I may still go that way since I like the bar ends that match these grips, but I'm thinking that's going to be one heck of a task. I could be wrong, it happens sometimes.

As for liking the grips, yeah, I really do like them. To me, they are the coolest looking grips I've seen, plus they fit my hand perfectly. It's just that step down to the boring looking bar that looks unfinished to me that I don't like.

Here are the grips that I have:

You should be able to drill a starter hole into the ends of the bars and then open it up with a dremel. That's assuming the ends of the bars are just capped off, which I don't recall seeing on bars before.

Those are some wild-ass grips!

See why I'm focused on keeping these grips. ;-) I actually found out this afternoon that it might be possible to remove the plug that is in there without having to do too much work. Hopefully I'll be able to check this evening.

Ride over this weekend and let me have a look at your bike and the grips. I'm really confused as to what your trying to accomplish. From what I understand, I would attack the problem in one of two ways. 1st, why not just cut the handlebars shorter? 2nd, tap it out and run a fat button-head bolt in there.

Those are nice grips. You spent a mint on those.

Not quite a mint, but they weren't cheap. They are worth it though, I think. They fit my hand great and to me, they just look cool as h*ll. The main reason I don't go for just tapping the plug that's in the bar is because then I'd have about 3/8" of chrome bar sticking out past my black grips (the picture I posted was the only one I could find) with a bolt sticking in it. Kind of goofy looking. I've actually found a guy that can turn down what I've drawn up for the bar ends, I just have to find an economical place to buy some aluminum rod stock. Oh, and then convince my wife that paying almost as much as I paid for the grips to get the bar ends made actually makes sense. :D

I'll try to swing by this weekend. I keep meaning to do that, but seems life always gets in the way of my weekend riding time. PM me your number so I can give you a call. If you don't mind.

Well, I should have my new bar ends within a week or so. I found a guy on a metal working forum that was up for the task and he made them for me over the weekend. Unfortunately for me, he's not going to be able to send them out until Wednesday. I'm a giddy little school girl right now.

Oh, and he had stainless steel on hand and I had him make them out of that instead of aluminum, so even more cool. ;D

In case anyone is interested, here is a teaser photo of the bar ends I had made. Now I just have to wait for them to get into my grubby little hands.

Well, the saga of the hard to find bar ends has been resolved. I designed them, contacted someone that can machine metal, and now I have my cool ass bar ends (to me at least). Didn't even cost too much. Woohoo.

And now a pic of the bar ends and my sweet grips:

I have a set of these mirrors mounted in the stock spot. Nice to look at, but being that I'm a fat blob, they aren't that funtional. At least I always know what my elbows look like. ;-)
