Glad to see you have it solved. For what it's worth, Honda shipped these bikes with the axle installed with the nut on the right side, though I am sure it makes no difference functionally.

It makes a difference if the fixed side of the axle is threaded. Used to swap the axle around on my Yamaha dirt bike (axle is welded to the adjuster) as it made the axle easier to get through the the brake carrier, did this once on my KTM (which is threaded) and it unwound the axle and wheel nearly fell off! Oops.
