An Eskimo in Texas

draconislivida

Nemo vir est qui mundum non reddat meliorem
What up! I've been toolin around for years, but just recently (2 years) got into metrics. Dam that craigslist!!
So I picked up a CB360T off CL for 300 doll-hairs. new tires and batt, and she ran fine. Then slowly this THING began to emerge. Shedding metal like autumn leaves ... well enuff with the poe-isms.

Welcome to DTT. I like the looks of her. With the crazy passenger pegs set up you had on her...you must have kids. :D

I liked both of your seat designs.

I hope you got asbestos boots! I fabbed up a custom high pipe for mine.

Even if you opened up the oil journals in the top lower case. Still, Be cautious not to get into the habit of letting her idle on the side stand. Obviously, I can't know for sure what the problem was, however, the design of the oil pickup may have been the culprit. So until you find out which pick up she's got. Be careful about letting her idle on the side stand. I have seen several cb360s eat top ends...for no "apparent" reason.

The bad one, rectangular w a wide open screen.

the improved version , has a funky rubber cover over the screen. to prevent air from entering.

Sir Trek! We All Bow To Your Existence!!! ::)

Well, the 2nd refit did have pegs for my shorty!
And I read that article you posted (or someone did) on fried cams.
So when I had the case open to install the new clutch and springs,
I was able to slightly mod the pickup tube with a grinder, hammer n
mig. plus I switched to rotella synthetic. but after reordering my third head
it was time to give up on oil passages and focus on tuning.

Im sure he was a bit torqued off about the single seat change out!

crazyPJ is the one who originally posted the Bulletin, I just try to pass it along when I can.

I found a couple more of the pick ups on ebay just this morning. search CB360 and none. CJ360 oil pick up is what you need. I just installed mine yesterday morning. I also opened up the oil cup. Much to my disappointment I found it clean, and the freakin O-ring had swollen up by 10mm! No way would it go back in without pinching. So I tried cleaning and drying, Heat gun, Freezing, boiling, cleaning some more, freezing overnight. Has not shrunk at all. GRRRR. I trimmed it, superglue pulled apart easily, cleaned it, pvc primer and super glue, then I lit one end on fire, coldnt make it stick. So, I guess No friggin test ride for me today. Autozone dont have one. My local Honda shop is closed on mondays. ARRRGH. And even then, I am sure, they will have to order it.

cj360 pickups on ebay.

turn signal ... headlight bracket ...
oh, the toolkit!?
A goggle hard-case (for those nifty goggles that keep sand out our eyes)
from the post-Desert Storm era

trek, I need help!

Man, this is weird!! I have absolutely NO Compression???

I had to order a new head, it came to me with new valve seals and the springs were measured and in good shape.
I have checked the head gasket, but no apparent leaks. I took the valve cover off, (so valves are closed) and still nothing from either cylinder.
What am I missing?

Put your thumb over the open spark plug hole and crank it over and see if the air pushes your thumb off the hole. If so, I would double check the gauge.
Pour a bit of oil in the cylinders and check again. This will help seal bad rings but only for a minute so work quick.

If you got nothing. pull the head off and fill (not FILL) the intake/exhaust ports w wd40 let it sit a MINUTE or so. and see if it leaks past the closed valves and seats. If ANY leaks past at all. (If you wait long enough some IS gonna eventually leak past.) If it holds for a 45-60 or so seconds they are good enough. But if it leaks past quickly... Then you need to dress them yourself or a full blown valve job.

If wd40 dont leak past valves they are good.

Pull the jugs off and check for broke rings or holes burnt through piston tops, scored cylinders...

Well, 5 min after my post I devised a plan. Rattled around in the garage an made a nifty gadget to pressurize the cylinder. Turns out air was running straight out the tailpipe!
Valves!!!
So I tore it all down again, for a kitchen cabinet valve job. Ebay head came with 4 bent valves!!!
Cleaned it up, mounted and got it all back together b4 sun up.

Next morning, checked cylinder pressure ... 163 left 160 right, (dry)

Was in the process of warming it up to tune the carbs and decided what the hell ...
so I shot a vid.

Sorry bout the bad valves. But, Awesome, you got her going!

Did you find it w the WD40?

no, I used a tire air hose combined with the adapter from a compression tester. This way I was able to not only get a reading, but monitor the leak down.
Didn't matter much, when I heard all that air coming out of the header.

Just re-engineered the kick-compression test, by injecting air into the cylinder.
