Using a ratchet strap to test showed the tire has about 3/4" clearance at full shock compression so it's good to go.
About the tires - I didn't get this bike to push to its limits. Even if I did I wouldn't be pushing it to its limits in the rainy season (which is coming up as mentioned).
I'm no expert on quasi vintage bikes like the 81' CB750, and what if anything makes them so drastically different than all the ADV, dual sport and enduro bikes that successfully ride around all year with the same style tires, and aren't crashing left and right.
My suspicion is people's heartburn with these tires mounted on this bike is that I wont be able to get a knee down or scrape the pipes going through the twistys (which is something I'm not interested in doing anyway). I sold my modern technology, excellent handling sport bike and bought this 34 year old project not to chase a rabbit trying to squeeze every last drop of performance out of it or even make it perform on par with a modern bike, but to have something fun to ride that puts a smile on my face.
The brakes and geometry of this bike might very well be less safe than these tires but I am aware of that and will ride accordingly taking it all into account. Hell, depending on what forum you're on - welding on your frame is the most dangerous thing you could do.
The DOT blessed off on these as being road worthy tires, they meet the weight spec of the bike and as the rider, I'm aware of their speed imitations and plan to keep it within those parameters while these tires are on. In my opinion, given the upcoming weather, putting summer performance tires or antiquated Firestones that look "vintage" would be far more "stupid" than these.
And like I said - if these don't perform as I expect them to I'll swap for them for something else.
Hell, if they put me on my face, I'll post pictures for your satisfaction.
