Another new guy, but from Dallas...

found you guys looking for a way to make rear sets. Herm21 posted a very informative read, and now I'm making a set of my own based on his design.
I figured if I am going to be successful in building a cafe racer, a good forum is nice way to start...
I'll start from the beginning... been a VW nut for ten plus years, and decided to get something on two wheels. traded a VW race engine for three beat up Vespas (my girl almost shot me)and sold the car. I spent about 2-3 month restoring a '66 smallframe and have been riding it daily for almost two years now. last year we had the annual Rockers Vs. Mods rally in Dallas and that was my first real glimpse at a well built cafe racer. gotta say I love the simplicity and the lines.
About six months ago, I traded one of the other Vespas I acquired in my trade from two years ago for a '67 Sears Allstate 106ss made by Gilera in Italy. I've been trying to build a cafe racer style bike ever since, and of course with money tight these days, I'm trying to make anything and everything I can.
So that's now, and we'll see where it goes from here...
If I can figure out how to post pics, I'll put some up of my progress so far.

Welcome to the site man! Sounds like you made a couple decent trades.

Most of us use photobucket, just copy the "IMG" code and paste it into your thread.

Where are you at in Dallas. There are quite a few of us popping up around here.

Can't wait for the pix, and welcome to your new cyber home.

What I started with...

vespaday2003.jpg

Painted the Vespa 150, rebuilt the engine 3 or 4 times, replaced all wiring, cable, switches, grips, bearings, seals, and a shit load of other stuff. And never could get it to run right. So, I traded it for a running, titled bike, this gilera...

And this is what I've done so far...

I'll post a few more later when i get them off of the camera...

unfortunately I'm usually stuck at either work or school, but I just got sundays off, so you'll catch me at the Dubliner at 3 with the rest of the vintage bike and scooter crew. just recently moved to Oak Cliff, finally got a garage...

Wow! That is one cool little scoot. I'd say you made out like a bandit on that trade!

I love that bike! Italians really have style.

Does the motor run? You should start a project thread.

I'm in Norman, Ok. I'm bummed that I'm missing Rocker's vs. Mod's this year, but I'm tied up this weekend. :(

thanks for all the good replies. as far as the motor, yes, she runs, but need some gremlins works out of the carb. Is she fast? Unfortunately, when they decided to call her the Gilera (Sears) 106ss, it meant that she had a displacement of 106cc, so not to fast, but I may get lucky and hit 60

thanks for THIS inspiration! If a hot chick comes with all Gilera's, then i gotta finish mine soon!!

a few more pics...

Not sure about the cable routing, but I couldn't see anywhere else for them to go...

Still unsure about this seat thing...

now you guys are up to date. I was hoping to finish her for RvM's, but i dont think i have time considering it's this weekend, maybe next year.

56_Oval,

I think I met you at Mods vs. Rockers this past weekend. You had the lady with the Cub, right? I was the tall lanky guy on the cafe'd white Guzzi V7. Hit me up if you want to ride sometime. I need people to ride with in the metroplex.
