That's quite a collection! That green CM400t is great, I'm just starting in on a 1981 CM400t and I want to do something very similar with it. I can only hope to end up with something that looks so sweet.
The CM400T was pretty stock. Just a Ducati 900ss style seat and the tank is a CB550 tank I believe. It's still sitting in the garage but the seat was sold. Wheels were from a CB650 as I hate the starcom mags with a passion. Then just some ebay clubmans. I gotta say though with clubmans. The ones they sell on ebay are positioned really bad compared to my K&N clubmans. The K&N's don't hit my tank and are just easier on the wrist then those ebay ones. I'm thinking of tossing some clipons onto it also once I get my CL175 running better. If I had to get another CM, I'd get the E model with the spoked wheels instead. It's the same thing but minus the disc and comstars.
I agree that the comstars aren't particularly nice looking wheels, but be sure to check out Milenko's CM400 project here http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=3983.msg54867#msg54867
He took his comstars apart and polished them to a near mirror finish. Pretty sexy!
At this point I'm not hoping for any amazing Cafe mod on my bike. I'm still trying to get the engine running so the kind of cosmetics you did are exactly what I have in mind. Thanks for the headsup on the e-bay Clubmans. Sometimes a few extra bucks is totally worth it for a better project.
wow. looks like some fun projects. the honda 400 came out great. i like how the seat floats over the frame rails. everyone freaks out about filling that space, but i like how you just made it work. hopefully you can make some more progress on your other builds. would love to see how much it takes to swap different engines into different frames.
Man that's one thing I hated about the bike was that rear section. It's really curvy and the shock mounts were a major eye sore. I need to get some newer pics of the CL175 cause it looks completely different and a blast to drive. Thanks for all the kind words. If any members here are close by I wouldn't mind maybe doing a little dotheton wi meet or just to drive down to rockerbox with. If anyone is up for it let me know.
