Another question about the California DMV and an out of state title.

I got a 1978 kz750 on a trade from Nevada and it hasnt been reg' for about 2 years. Will I need the old registration when I go to the DMV or is the title alone enough? Thanks.

From what I was told when registering another bike you do not need the reg. I was told they would want an inspection but they ended up not doing on the first bike. We did have to take the seccond bike bought in nevada in for a CHP check though. Again we had no reg just bills of sale. The bikes were off the road for 7+ years though so your millage may very, you can always just call and ask questions they will answer some things over the phone.

I know this is an older topic, but I just went through the whole registration hoop jumping routine today so I thought i'd share.

The motorcycle I registered had only the title (out of state), and the VIN on the Motor and Frame were not matching and had a new speedo so the odometer read 2 Miles. I was asked if I had any current registration papers or a plate for it, but told the woman I had only the title. She was more surprised about it having "only 2 miles on it!" and I explained it was a new gauge.

Since it was out of state I had to take it in for "verification" and the guy was really cool. I had no mirrors or signals on it and he didn't say anything. I did not have to go to CHP luckily.

After waiting in many lines and a couple hours later I had a plate and it was registered. Basically, any out of state vehicle needs to be inspected and as long as the title isn't suspect you'll be good.
