Any Experience with a Kawi Concours?

warpedworm

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong
So the wife says we need a bike for long trips, you read that right!

"wife says we need a bike" I have a great woman ;D

Anyway, does anyone here have any experience with the 1000cc Concours, that's
what we're looking at. Found a couple with 26-23,000 miles. '95 and '01 for
$ 3,000

She kind of wanted me to get rid of a few bikes last year, but has pretty much
given up on that, as I sold 3, bought 3 and got one I sold back.

So, what's the verdict on the Concours.

Congrats on that...!!!

I've heard they're great at nothing and suck at nothing...just a dam good bike that's quite reliable and easy to work on.

Check out the Concours Owners Group.
Good message board with lots of tips, like the 7th gear,ZRX cams and big bore kit.
Motorcycle is a shafty,1000cc(but same family as the GPZ900,ZRX1100 and the ZX11).

I owned a 2000 about 5 yrs ago. I'd like to have another if money wasn't tight. The riding position is a little tough on the wrist but there are fixes for that with bar risers. Huge tank is heavy when full and can get it off balanced easily going real slow. $3000 is a bit steep on the 95 and about fair for an '01 in great shape with a good service record and extras. Be sure valves were adjusted recently. Like Nebr_Rex suggested, the COG can't be beat. I paid 3200 for my 2000 in '05 with 27000 mi on it. Good luck!

We've had one in the stable since what.....86 I think? The current one is a 99 that's down for a carb rebuild. They are very tire dependent, so if you're having tip in issues at low speed try working with your tires or perhaps a new pair. For a touring bike it's pretty sporty, as a sport tourer it's....well....a sport tourer. That being said it's a capable machine that can cover some miles in relative comfort and still wick it up well. The motor is derivative of the gpz900/1100 and lots of parts swap over. I've got a rebuilt and ported 900 head that's slotted for this one, with the 900 cams it'll gain 15 or so ponies.
The best thing I added to it was a 2nd hand Corbin seat and a Rifle laminar windscreen.

Thanks for the info, I did buy the '01. It's been very well maintained, and doesn't
have a single scratch.

Taking a little while to get used to it, the biggest and heaviest bike I've owned
is the 650 Cagiva. This one is a couple hundred pounds more, and doesn't even
feel like you have a passenger on the highway or on hills.

It's also the only bike I've ever had that I can watch the fuel gauge go down ;D

Well, my wife is getting her wish next week, we're going on an 800 mile trip.

well done, I was wondering what bike you were talking about initally..they are called just "GTR's" in Aus...you won't regret it they are a pearler of a tourer & would compare it as just as good as my old BMW K100rt except the GTR has better electrics....hope your trip goes well.
cheers pete

I have plans for the ol'Connie here in the shop, see attached.....

One could drop quite a lot of weight off these old girls with a 'glass dustbin and a one-off rear storage gig like the bike in the pics. My dad used to run the CoG (Concours owners group) and I got to ride on several that were pretty hotted up.
One weight in at 480lbs (still chubby by current standards) without any heavy frame or chassis mods. Dude just stripped off all the plastics and useless shit and hung some glass fairing on it (escapes me now).

With a little careful planning this would make a great project!
