Anybody familiar with Suzuki 550?

I just got a lead on a complete 1980 Suzuki GS550E, Supposedly dead coils. In all the years I've been flipping bikes, I've never seen a dead coil. Not saying it doesn't happen, but my experience is usually a dead CDI or electrical issue. Just asking if anybody has a quick avenue to look at, or should look for....

CDI units are a common failure in those years gs550's in all their respective models. They are expensive but I think they make some aftermarket replacements now.

I seem to remember hearing that there was a recall on those CDI's but I can't remember.

As far as coils go, they get dry rot like tires and crack, then are useless. As far as just "going dead", just test them and you'll know for sure.
