Anybody heard of side-gapping a spark plug?

A dyno series would be brilliant! Now, all I need is that dyno time... ;D

The photo with the twin sparks may well be simultaneous sparking. The benefit of this, as I mentioned before, is that it gives a more uniform flame-front in larger cylinders than a single spark would. This has timing advantages as well as giving more complete and uniform combustion.

I've seen guys dropping money on weird gimmicky stuff hoping for extra power only to find that the speed they wanted came more from the wallet being lighter.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of knowing what the hell you're doing and sticking to basics first. First steps of modifying for power:

Standard exhaust gets ditched for performance item
Air filter gets uprated to performance item (or pods fitted if stock box sucks)
Carburettors get jetted to suit.

That right there should give you anywhere between 2 and 10 horsepower depending on what the bike is and what condition it was in to start with. Obviously if it was running quite well in stock form then it may only improve a few horses over stock. If you want to take things further then you get into head modifications, performance cams, lightened valvetrain, race carbs & ignition etc.

I seriously don't know why a lot of people just throw money at some things. Especially those things which don't even seem logical. Well, I probably do know...but that just comes down to too much cash and too little sense.
