Anybody skydive?

Just did my first ever jump (obviously a tandem, for all you perverts ;) ) and I am hooked on that rush. Something about committing at that level, and the freefall at 120 mph is freaking rad!

Any advice from you old pros?

Dont let a cartoon character pack your shoot. you will pull your cord and it will be full of dirty clothes or dishes and silverware.

Haha!

I think I am going to certify over the winter/ spring, so I can travel to different drop zones and go. Absolutely amazing what you see and feel. Had a perfect day for it as well!

A few pics...I was only nervous when the instructor said it was time for him to "take me from behind at 120 MPH"! (nothing happened... :D

Hahaaaha that hilarious, But I want to go sky diving so bad, have to do it some time in my life. I would want to jump out the back of a C-17 or something that the back opens up.

I've never sky dived. I imagine it must be like crashing only in slow motion. That brief moment of weightlessness lasts a bit longer and then splat! Well, hopefully something softer.

It was interesting to reach the same speeds on falling that I do on my bike! And even more of a mind-over-matter thing to actually get out of the plane onto the jump step when the door opened. But once free, it is the most amazing feeling!

I talked to the instructor about how many chute failures he has experienced. He said that in over 13,000 jumps, he has had to use his reserve chute 25 times. He seemed to think that was pretty good odds, although I talked to another guy yesterday that had lost a friend doing it was well. All in all I figure the risk is at least comparable to a motorcycle, although the rate of survival is somewhat lower. It brings a whole new level of commitment to the sport, though, since once you are free of the plane, you have no choice but to land!

Turns out another advantage of skydiving, is that when you dream about falling, your mind acutally knows what it is talking about now!

Remember this, that the sky is less forgiving than anything else (the sea, the road, your bike, your wife) of even the smallest mistake.

I've been a few times, all jumps were tandem ones of course. I love it, I don't get a rush, I really enjoy the peaceful feeling and quiet that happens until the shoot is pulled.

First time I went I was a bit nervous, but as I waited for my group I kept seeing these 12 year old girls land and by the time we were up I was completely calm.
I didn't talk to anyone about shoot safety, however, I did watch this Russian guy land and pack his shoot back up. That parachute looked like a throwback USSR WWII shoot that's been patched a few times. If he landed safely anything the place provided was rated A+ as far as I was concerned.

I've been once. It was fun, but over wayyyy too soon. 1 min. of freefall and 4 min. under canopy. I wanted to stay up there longer. Thus I got my pilot's license. Now I can carve the sky for as long as I want...

Just the idea of skydiving scares every bit of shit out of me...

Maybe I'd be able to psych myself up enough to get in the plane, but... I just don't think I could actually DO IT the second someone opened up the doors. I'd freak.

Spent 8 years in the 82nd Airborne and made a total of 140 odd jumps. Some were with HALO (hi altitude-low opening) school. It was work for me but I did enjoy the solitude. Amazing what u can hear from the air-even 3000 feet up. other than canopy rustle -very quiet up there.bj

That is the exact way I felt on my second jump. There is a guy in one of my classes who has a buddy at a skydiving that may give me less on the cheap. My ultimate goal is BASE jumping with a wingsuit. I really wish I could get certified. It's sooooo damn expensive.

Awesome Man! I did it once a few years back. I did it solo with a static line. Its pretty cool letting go of that wing strut.
Hope you continue to do it!!

Skydiving is AMAZING! One of the best adrenaline thrills I've ever experienced mixed with the most one of the most peaceful moments I've ever experienced. Floating there after the shoot opens is just unbelievable. I went last year, in October I think. Great time. Would certainly do it again and again.

Thanks for posting T. That must have been a great feeling. I still wait for the day when I can do it. It's always something that get's in the way, Not fear though. I'm sure I'll face it when I am ready to do it. But what a rush you must have felt. I wonder if you lose the rush with time.
I mean, when you're up there and have parachuted so many times, are you thinking? hmmm, i wonder if i turned the oven off, and oh, i have to pay the electric bill tomorrow. LOL

I hope you can go, too, bud! I can't foresee losing that adrenaline rush....it is that strong. I talked to the instructor about that, too, and he said that it doesn't really go away, you just go bigger!

Looking into chutes, now... ;D

We used to have a jump school across the street from our old house. Apparently people have the overwhelming urge to scream WOOO HOOOOOooooo their first twenty or so times. ;D
