Anyone ever use a STE-SK vacuum gauge to sync carbs?

My CB500T has the stock kehin carbs which have no vacuum port, and rather than modifying the boot/cylinder head I was wondering if the STE-SK style vacuum tool would work in place of a typical carb vacuum sync tool.

I know these are generally used in an upright position, but I was thinking that running an 18" or so hose as a runner from each carb might be sufficient to smooth the air and give an accurate reading. Any thoughts on why this would be a terrible idea?

I have always found that a device that placed over the carb throat to read airflow, which is then used to balance another carb on the same motor, affects the airflow into the carb enough to alter rpm or idle characteristics. Therefore making accurate balancing very difficult. You are best to use a properly calibrated set of manometers as they do not affect the carbs function while making readings.

Pretty much the exact type of answer I was looking for. What do you suggest for a motor/carb setup that has no vacuum port?
