Anyone got a favorite shop in SLC, UT?

bud.

Been Around the Block
I know there are a handful of us SLC folk on DTT- anyone got a favorite local shop to shout out?

Wrights Motorcycle on State and about 3450 south (next to Harbor Freight) is my top pick. The only shop I buy motorcycle shit from locally. Great service, family, and mechanic (Dave) has 30+ years exp.

I've had some dealings with Seth from Salt City Builds, seems like a stand up guy, says they're doing a lot of repair work.

Haha, I actually live less than a block from Banbury Cross... I smell that shit every morning, it's amazing.

Yeah just looking for a general mechanic to help me out with things I can figure out myself :) Jake from G&G has been great and is a genius with engines, and Motorcycle Doc shop has come highly recommended from numerous sources... but it seems like most shops I've been talking to have been way overbooked. Motorcycle Doc isn't even scheduling out any new customers right now.

I'll have to check out Wrights. I've been there for parts- but it's good to know they've got a good mechanic too.

And I've seen bikes that have come from Pangea Speed and Salt City Builds- but they're more into builds and not general repair right?

Sounds like they are doing repair work- I'll have to check them out... seem like they've got some soul

I have used Wrights a lot, it is owned/ran by Tim and his mom and they are both great to work with and they are always willing to help out on prices (if you are buying more than just a quart of oil). They deal in aftermarket only products and whenever I went there for parts on my CB450 they had what I needed on the shelf (turn signal covers, clutch lever, bars, grips). I recommend them almost daily to customers that are looking for an aftermarket part that I don't stock. For example they keep a full line of K&N oil and air filters in stock. They keep almost a complete bikemaster line in stock (handlebars, grips, turn signals, batteries). Their people are all friendly and fun to work with, they all ride and some race, they all have good advice and have been very helpful for me. I have been going there since 2009.

I work at Plazacycle and I can get everything they carry in a day or two, but they will likely have what ever you need aftermarket wise on their shelf and like I said they are all really good people to work with and very helpful.

Lindsay Machine Racing in Sandy does excellent machine work, that is where we send most of our stuff.

Bills Bone Yard is a great place but half of his stuff is outside and the other half isn't that organized, but during the week he is open until 7 pm, which makes it easy to stop by after work and he is usually pretty good on prices and letting you use his tools to tear stuff off bikes in his yard. I have been getting stuff from him since 2002.

I have never taken one of my bikes to a shop, and most shops around town are hiring bike mechanics, but it seams like they completely turn over every 3 to six months so best of luck on that one. If the owner is turning the wrench you will have a better shot at building a servicing relationship. I have found this forum helpful enough with multiple threads already posted on whatever problem that I am having, which is why I joined.

I'm not here to plug my own shop, I work in the parts department, but if you ever want to compare prices I would be willing to help, we have a service department here that is usually 2 to 3 weeks out and they want you to leave your bike here that whole time, but they are really good about upfront price quotes. We are a yamaha, honda, and kawasaki dealer, but on this older discontinued stuff I am usually better at locating a dealer for you that has the part and dealer parts can be pretty pricey.

BTW while I was writing this me and a coworker sent 6 people to Wrights

I know the guys from Salt City Builds, good dudes and amazing beards.

Wrights I have been meaning to go to forever and just haven't yet.

Where is Bills Bone Yard? I have heard of it and that its in Magna I think but never heard of exactly where...I know I could google it but meh.

Cycle Gear in Draper has a lot of inexpensive and decent quality gear too

EDIT: I am pre-proposing a ride to Granny's in Heber for a shake in the spring/summer/once a week.

Bills is on 5600 west just south of SR201, there are a few other salvage yards in the area and they have a website billsboneyardut.com

I some how bought a bike that turns into Granny's every time I try to drive past, it has the same problem with Icebergs
