I couldn't resist today... I was picking up the 79 GS750 to try my cafe project again with a more suitable bike (this one needs a tank anyway so I'm going to put my clip-ons on first and pick a tank AFTERwards this time)
Well.. There it was...sitting in one of the bays... neglected...left for dead.... an 02 VTX1800.... Now that I have it sitting in my shop I'm torn between making a Freight train Flat tracker or a Cafe out of it -- I pretty much brought it to the shop to part it out but hell the engine turns and has full compression..... Frame aint wrecked.... I've got a dual throat Del'Orto carb laying around... Know how to make an ignition plate to hold a Dyna S instead of having an ignition box married to this modern fuel injection crap I loathe with a passion......
Anyone seen or done anything fun with these along the cafe/Flat Tracker lines? (besides the Jesse James one)

Jesse james molested one into submission a while back. Not the bad job either. Not quite my cuppa, but he did go rather original with it id say...

Well... this is what I've got to work with.... I'm thinking the back fender is the first thing to go..... Wonder will a camelback off one of my old GSXR track day plastics fit it........

They're BIG, but I guess you know that since it's sitting in your shop :) I used to want one. I loved the deco style headlight but then I got on one. I didn't know bikes could be so big. I was a kid. Soon after, I discovered cafe style bikes and was hooked for life. The tank is big but it needs to be for the size of the frame so replacing it would be troublesome. Man, I dunno what to do. You could do some deco style mods to make it look a bit more classic without looking half-assed like many production "classic" style bikes. Whitewalls, etc.. Good luck and share some pics :)

Now that's a SWEET looking Valkyrie.....

Blake -- I'm already making wire mesh tail pieces -- I'm going to go with a 50's style Camelback tail -- makeing a few out of chicken wire until I find the shape i like - then I'll hammer it out of aluminum.... I think it's going to end out more freight train flat tracker than cafe -- Plus I'm going to have a removable hitch -- soon as this one starts I'm retiring the Goldwing and still have to have something to pull my racebike on... This is going to take me a few months though -- I like the non-hardley abelson look a lot better and that's what I am shooting for -- shifter is going back with straight bars on the front - going to have to be wide bars too
I'm basing the tail piece on the traditional camelback look but it's going to be big enough it will do double duty as storage
