Anyone make their own clip ons?

So I got to thinking.... you could easily adapt some cheapo ebay headlight brackets to be clip ons.... I don't know how they would be as far as sturdiness and what not, but has anyone done anything like this? Really want clip ons, but don't want to fork out the money.. I have old bars laying around, I have a set of $18 headlight brackets... Should I attempt?

I made a set for my bike. They show up near the bottom of page 1 of the build thread here:

I would probably go with something a little more substantial than headlight ears for the base. Materials for mine were only about $20.

If you mean the pressed steel headlight brackets, I'm pretty sure they are too thin and will flex/bend or crack
'Normal' welded steel use about 3mm stock as clamp
I made my own 'billet' mounts

Visualize what would happen if it broke if you hit a bump while in a curve with an embankment on one side of the road, and a ravine on the other.

Like yon said, terrrrrible idea ! Shell out the money for a good quality pair. I had a bad experience with some crappy ebay clip-ons. One side literally just bottomed out onto the lower triple when riding, taking my throttle with it ! Scary shit
