Anyone running a Full fairing with headlight? any clever way???

Hello all,
Im looking for a super small headlight... I want to mount a full fairing, (Race look) on my cb350.....thing is...I dont want a huge round headlight sticking out of the front...looks ugly to me..and not very racer'y? ....Id like to find a small oval maybe headlight that isnt so obnoctious up front... im always looking for clever ways to do things and the hard way unfortionately but it usually pays off!
Has anyone else done this? or any suggestions on a way to go would be great!
 
I've spent a lot of time looking for a good small headlight for this same reason. You may be interested in looking at the Sachs MadAss headlights, Also Buells' XB12R or XB9R I think all three of these scoots have the same part for their projector headlight. The Buells are a little more integrated, but the MadAss is as universal as universal gets. And none of them are all that expensive $50-$70 (for the light itself, not the whole dual light assembly) The two MadAss lights are sold under two different part numbers but I think this is just because one of them (the high beam) has a hole in the bottom where a running light plugs into it and the associated wiring. That's the one that I got for my 360 that I'm building. No reports on it's effectiveness because it's on my workbench with the rest of the bike. But I've plugged it into a charged battery and the sucker will have to seeing spots like no other, and it's sold as a headlight for a street bike so it's DOT. I feel much better about this light than I could ever feel about any Piaa style aftermarket foglight which for a while seemed like it might be my only option.
 
I just measured my MadAss headlight and the projector part of it that would have to poke out of the fairing measures about 2.5 inches in diameter.

I got mine from Cleaveland moto (216-227-1964 ask for Renae) because a member here (Djelliott) works there and helped me out.

Mysta, Will one of those be sufficient for street use? ie. Legal? or do you need two?
and will it run fine with stock volt/ampage from a cb350? (im clueless when it comes to electric shit...only reason i ask)

You'll have to ask your state about legality, most require a high beam and a low beam. That said though with the age of my bike (it's newer than yours) and given the fact that I hung vintage plates on it, they didn't even care to look at it before giving my my 5 year sticker. The 350 runs on 12volt just like the MadAss so yes it should work fine as long as your electrical system is in good working order.

Thanks, to be honest, I already aquired the controls im going to use, and is bare minimum...(Dont have a switch for my "Brights" anyway) haha... just gonna run my headlight the whole time the bikes ON... dont see myself doing alot of night riding on this bike anyway...hopefully they wont look or care...and being its age like you said.
 
In Texas you can run "year of make" plates and register your bike as a classic vehicle. That sticker's good for 5 years, there's no inspection, and it's less than $100. Just have to find an appropriate plate on Ebay, that's what I did with Loudbike.
 
thanks mysta, seems like here in ohio you cant ride your motorcycle daily with classical or historical plates... but since i bought it in ohio i dont have to have it inspected
 
Well that's a technicality, but you can't ride it daily here under that registration either... fortunately mine doesn't run daily so no worries for me.
 
thanks for the link rev, Im really liking that MadAss Headlight, and have found a place that has them for about 23 dollars...(low beam and high available) just gonna go with a low...and as far as the fairings go, i think im gonna go with a particular model from glass from the past....

Oh, that reminds me. Somehow there are two different versions, I think it's early and late. The lighting on the early ones apparently sucked, so Sachs fixed it with the later model. Don't get an early one.

I got the high because it has the separate running light in it, that way I can have that running light on all the time and switch the headlight on when I need it. I don't know if they're any different other than that one detail.

Thanks for the clarification... I want to keep things simple, and I dont have a switch to go high beam on my bike...

You think the low beam would be sufficient enough? or should i just suck it up and make another switch for the high?

If the low would be sufficient for night (itd be on all the time.) id like to go that route
 
No one can make that decision other than you. If you don't want the running light go with the low, in most cases low beams have a much broader patterned beam and would be a better choice for an only light. Being that both of the MadAss lights are obviously projectors I don't think this is the case though, and It's my guess that they are exactly the same but aimed differently.


Go with the low beam, try it out. If you don't like it you're only out $26, I vote it's worth the gamble.

thanks for the advice, im gonna give the low beam a shot.

BTW, I checked out your blog, and saw the pic of the MadAss light, while still considerably smaller, its much bigger than it looks in the picture posted here haha, but looks like it will work perfectly...
