I need an appraisal for insurance. anyone recommend anywhere?

Fawcett motors in whitby wants $90. I'd like to find cheaper.

Why would you need appraisal for insurance? Are you getting full coverage with gap and uninsured and basically everything there is on a bike worth less than your first years insurance payments would be? My insurance is 190/year and if I total it out, I only get a grand out of it for replacement value, but it's only 190/year!

insurance in Canada is large $$$ for motorbikes, If I get an appraisal I can get "classic or collector" rate. about half of what I would pay .

Classic insurance is highly restrictive. It's only meant for occasional use such as parades and shows. If you get into an accident while commuting, insurance company will have the right to deny any claims.

Jevco is the underwriter most of us use I think, through a variety of brokers. If you've been riding for more than 1 year or so and have a good record expect to pay around $0.70/cc for liability only (I pay $560 for my BMW R75 750cc).

DrJ is correct - the 'Classic Chrome' or whatever option you're looking at that requires an appraisal is for very limited use, and frankly, I don't know how much you end up saving in the end.

statefarm will insure basic liability policy without an appraisal, the other company i found that would insure the bike without a appraisal is Dalton Timmis. They both wanted similar rates, Im 24, 1yr experience,71 CB450, living in toronto, paying $1080 a year, with statefarm. I believe statefarm underwrites there own bikes but i think dalton timmis is underwritten by jevco?!?!?

I wanted to go the appraisal route myself as i feel my machine is worth a little more than $1000, but after looking into it i decided without was the better way to go. For me the word "modified" was getting thrown around too much for my comfort. they get weird when you paint and freshen up a bike....

$90 for an appraisal is about right.
I have 2 bikes on Silver Wheels as "classics" and use them casually. Probably saves me about $200 per bike per year. And that is with collision.(through Dalton Timmis)
The other bike is on a standard policy and is what I use for commuting and touring.
Getting an appraisal can't hurt as it gives you some kind of proof of the value of your bike in case of an accident claim.
Let's face it, most of us do modifications that can cost a lot of $$ so the appraisal gives evidence of that value.
IMHO...$90 well spent!
