So i picked up my xs400 last summer in Michanigan. no issues coming accross the boarder paper work all is good..
went to put it in my name.. and was told i needed it appraised ( its a 1981) but my bikes not running at the momnent
anyone in the Durham region do appraisels for MTO.. so i can put it in my name and on the road this summer.

thanks

Not all MTO offices ask for appraisals on old vehicles, it's hit and miss. Try the Whitby office. I go to the Etobicoke Service Ontario and they don't require appraisals.

It may be due to the fact you've imported it from the US. I haven't looked at the whole process in a while, but it wouldn't surprise me if an appraisal would be required.

Did you pay GST/PST/HST at the border when importing it?

My brother, Seaglider, has bought a car, a skiboat, 2 trailers and a motorcycle in the U.S. and brought 'em into Ontario. To my knowledge, he has never had to have an appraisal done to register them. :)

PM him. 8)

thanks guys..
I did not have to pay taxes at the boarder due to the price ( 200.00 ) bucks and since i was there for more then 24 hours it came accross clean.. I have no issues with paying the GOV of Ont thier taxes but they wont acept the bill of sale and no blackbook on it cause its vintage.. LOL

I,m going to try the whitby MTO maybe this weekend if i can .. I normally use the Ajax one so hopefully this will go better.. I<ll play stupid again.. LOL

The Whitby office didnt ask me for any appraisal when I transfered ownership on my '76 CB400F.........you will have better luck there and that was maybe 2 months ago. Its on Rossland between Brock St and Garden...........north side

i had to have the bill of sale and paper work.. I faxed everything to the boarder crossing a few days before..
stop at the check point to claim it.. and moved on.. was pretty easy and painless ( older cars and bikes ) go through pretty easy if they are on the list.. Before you buy.. check the website it will say what cars and bikes can come over and anything over 10 years is pretty painless if you have all the documentation ready a few day before

I have to say.. Getting an older bike int he USA is the way to go..
up here finding a xs650 or xs400 was int he 2 to 4gs area.
down in the upper area of NY and Mich they go for 500
makes the trip worth it ( harleys area dime a dozen down there for around 2gs for basket cases)

yeah Im looking to pick up a 64 xlch down der. What peaperwork did you send? Bill of sale and ownership?

yes bill of sale
copy of the onwership
any converation via email with the seller.
as well as all his information
and send it only to the boarder crossing your going to
you can get thier fax and phone number online
i sent it 5 days before and followed up 2 days before to make sure it was all there.
then just stop off at the claims office (not the dudy free) On both sides of the boarder.
