Are there any axles out the that will help me with my dilemna?

So I have a cb350 and just picked up a cb450 for parts.... mainly the rims. It's now struck me that the axels are about a mm too big for my swingarm. Are there any axles out there that have a smaller diameter where it slips into the swingarm? I'd really like to prevent grinding away at the slot in the swingarm or lacing the rim onto my existing hub since that seems like a bitch!! I could always hit up a machinist, but I'd like to see my options first.

you may be able to swap out bearings or sleeve the ones in wheels to fit axle (couple of 0.5mm wall thickness tubes)

Swapping rims is not an option anyway. CB450 rims have 40 spokes and CB350 has 36.

You don't want to try and make a spacer that thin, go with different bearings for sure and use your original axle. You may need to ream or drill out the hole in your brake carrier, but that's pretty easy. Just hit the link in my sig-line and have a look at the document entitled: Japanese Bikes axles, bearings and fork tube sizes.doc and the document entitled: Bearing_sizes.pdf that should clue you in to exactly what you need.
Cheers and happy T-nite.

I took the measurements of the cb350 axle and it's 17mm, the 450 is 20mm, that makes for a 3mm sleeve. Still think that's too small? seems good to me. will it interrupt in free-motion in any way?

3mm difference = 1.5mm thick walled spacer. That's pretty thin. I'd be thinking new bearings.

Have a look at Alan's bearing doc's or have a look here:

And here:

You need to look for a 17mm ID bearing that has the same OD as the 450 bearings (obviously). You may not find one, but you might find a 25mm ID bearing which will give you more room for a more suitable spacer.

Yes, I do realize that. I'm saying it would be a helluva lot simpler to swap rims if the spoke numbers matched. After all, the original goal was to replace the rim, not the hub. But now the axles don't match and that would need more work to correct. I suggest find a matching rim and have the wheel rebuilt.
