Needs new.
As mentioned, cheaper and safer than crashing
Even if they seem expensive at $30~$50.00 each, get new ones, used are likely to be in same or similar condition

Junk.

Last time I bought a caliper piston, it was something like $6.00 more than than the caliper rebuild kit without a piston.

I recently rebuilt a caliper on a Suzuki GS850, and the rebuild kit including the piston was only $31.50.

Where are you getting your parts?
That GS has to be aftermarket as Suzuki doesn't do a kit containing piston and seals for calipers
Trade pricing?
modified automotive?
aftermarket Harley parts?
Most of the people here have to rely on OEM or e-bay for parts, you won't find things for the prices you mention.

<<That GS has to be aftermarket as Suzuki doesn't do a kit containing piston and seals for calipers>>

That was the retail price right from the Suzuki parts book at Philadelphia Cycle Center. They ordered it from Suzuki, and got it in two days. I also ordered one caliper kit without the piston. I got the master cylinder rebuild kit from an eBay supplier for $27.00.

So far, I have been having very good success with getting OEM parts from Suzuki for the old GS's. I have two customers with 1980 GS850's, and I own a GS450.
