At the risk of sounding like an arrogant schmuck...................

I'm sure this will cause at least some discussion. For the record though, I'm not an arrogant schmuck; just a purely frustrated individual when it comes to this crap.

Spotted this bike sitting a while and contacted the owner to see if he'd like to sell it (this was 3 years ago now :eek: :eek: ).

He gave me a big long-winded tale about how it's a project and he's gonna start working on it etc. etc. etc. So, naturally, I walked away.

He owns it, and doesn't want to sell.......cool. He's got plans for it.

Well, since I drive by this guy's house every day on my way to work and the bike sits out at the end of his yard in the open, I always look to see the progress being made (out of curiosity). Unfortunately, the only changes I ever see is the parts that are slowly rotting off it (the other side of the bike is far worse) and more shit in his yard. More old cars, old bath tubs, drums and other random junk that he does nothing with. Pure hoarding.

I don't want to sound like I'm criticizing too much. Everyone has the right to live how they want and he's not doing any "real" harm but, God damn. At what point do you sit back and think, "Hey, this guy is offering me money for this. I'm clearly not doing anything with it. Maybe I should let it go."

Again, it's his. He owns it. Who am I? I understand all that but, does anyone else ever get frustrated as fuck by this stuff? People who keep things just so they can rot right into the ground - literally. I approached him again about 6 months ago and made another offered (way more than I should have) but he gave me the exact same song and dance. The bike has not moved one single INCH in three years except when it got blown over during Hurricane Sandy.

I realize it's up to him and that's all good, but, It's so frustrating to see people do this.

There is a guy not far from my house who has a yard full of cars and he has a KZ440 in the driveway. It's been sitting out for a few years as well and I paid him a visit also. Good guy but also doesn't want to sell. The bike has since fallen over (about three months ago) and is rotting on the ground in front of his garage - won't even pick the freaking thing up! :mad: I'd really love to work on that one.

Too bad. ::)

YES..................that's the guy's yard. ::)

No, you don't sound like an arrogant schmuck... a frustrated schmuck maybe... ;) ;D

It's hard when you see stuff like that, but, like you said, it's his stuff to do with as he pleases. In his mind, he really is gonna get to it. Some day. :eek:

I get more frustrated with people who want ridiculous $$ for that same rusty junk and with people who won't sell extra parts that they're hoarding. :(

You could be missing out on an opportunity to meet somebody cool - stop in every six months and offer him a few hundred bucks. Or you could help him work on it!

I mean odds are that he's a crazy person, but you never know.

A "frustrated schmuck"??

Uhhhhh.............hmm.................. yeah, I'll accept that. :)

Here's to hoping he eventually gets around to it. At least (unlike the other guy) he picked it up after it fell over. ::)

Hahaha

It would certainly be interesting ;D Especially with the guy who owns the Honda. I swear it's like he's talking 3 different topics at once. Pretty funny stuff. I'm guessing he reads a heap because he was the KING of big words and incredibly verbose HAHAHAHAHA

Both guys were pretty cool in all honesty and I spoke with both at length about a bunch of stuff. It's not like they freaked when I showed up and sent a couple of rabid dogs after me. They were cool. Just frustrating how they'd rather see their shit rot.

It's just hard for me to accept but, I know, again, I have no say in it.

you are aware, of course, that honda made something like eleventy billion of those bikes...

LOL Yes..........and I own one of the eleventy billion.

I want that front end though. I know I can get another from eleventy billion places but none so easy or close to home. What can I say? I'm lazy sometimes.

Laziness is rampant in your neighborhood. ???

Hahaha

I may have painted that picture but, the Honda is on the opposite side of town close to the more industrial area and the KZ is much closer (two blocks or so over) and his house "stands out" if you know what I mean. ;)

You made me laugh on that one. 8)

It sucks, but hey....maybe he's just saving you a headache. Might be better to find a bike where the tarp is covering something other than the ground.

Can't save them all. Just take it in the middle of the night and leave the money on his doorstep.

You wanna know schmuck? I had one of those that with a bit of electrical work would be on the road today. In mint shape compared to that one. Never thought they'd ever be desirable again. Hauled it to the dump 5 years ago.
Now that's a fuckin' schmuck.

I feel for you.. The guy at the end of my street has an early 70's Yamah XS650 that ive asked about but Ive had to watch it rot in the yard, get covered by six feet of snow and now its started to thaw out again. Sucks cause it would be a nice project.

35 years ago I found a 67 Shelby GT500 out in the country in rough shape sitting on 4 flat tires in a guys yard. Close to the road, not in his barn, not in the driveway, rotting in his YARD. I stopped and got out to look for a for sale sign. I'm still standing at the road when the guy comes out yelling to get the hell away. I was honestly being nice and asked him if he was going to sell it and he FREAKED... ranting and throwing his arms around, telling me to get off his property. I informed him it was a puplic road and I was just interested in the car and it's story. But I got back in my car and drove away
Every once in a while I'd drive out there and I watched that car rot to junk for 20 years. Quit going back because it was killin me. Wonder if that guy EVER did anything with it... :(

Ok that one hurts. A lot. A 67 Shelby these days is worth... so much. My dad had a 68 Shelby back in the day. Sold it and bought a bike, and then wrecked the bike. You can buy a house with the money from one of those.

My good buddy has had an early sixties VW Singlecab rusting away in his yard for as long as I can remember. Hes an old hippie from way back and though he's aware of the prices those trucks command now its still a couple hundred dollar pile of parts to him.I've spent bettet part of a decade bugging him about it. Finally nroke down and said that he'd get it back on the road if I helped and it would end up being mine at some point.

Persistance pays off.

Damn............ Coming from a big car family, I feel that one as well.

Freaking pathetic. ::)

A short drive out of town there is a '67 camaro sitting outside next to a barn. I asked him if he wanted to sell it when I was 17 and he said no. I'm 36 now and its still sitting in the same spot un touched. Such a shame.

Don't be silly. Of course he didn't. He's just one of the many dickheads that have something and the only reason to hold on to it is that you or someone else wants it and it gives them power over you. I've got it and you don't HAHAHAHAH!!!

Re: At the risk of sounding like an arrogant schmuck...................

I have been on both sides of this topic myself. Tried, to no avail,getting parts/bikes that were going to do nothing but rust away from someone who would not let it go. And I myself, have also held onto an item for way to long knowing I would probably never get around to it. I have just recently. Realized I was a schmuck for doing so. Said item is pictured below just in case anyone here wants to buy her and give her a good home.
