You raise a very good point, but it's still Bike of the Month... that'll always lean people toward the visual. Perhaps another monthly vote should be started. Build of the Month... only applies to 'finished' bikes... Could be a nice way to get recognition for a well documented process and exceptional labor.

I second that.

I guess the bottom line is that there is no rule on if the dude "built" it or not on BOTM. If someone wants to break out their cheque book the day before then so be it. It's not the way rockers did it in the cafe days and basically I didn't learn jack shit cause there's no thread. So just like in politics, I'll vote for whoever appears to have the most integrity and works harder for my vote. You guys vote for whatever floats your boat.

Third that. All said and done, I'm still of the opinion that the Venom is the BOTM for Aug. No disrespect to the others. Love the discussion, but defining "build " is best left to a later date.( BTW, thanks Buckeyebike for pointing me to that relevant thread..)"

I guess I'm wrong. Rules say "make sure you have a well detailed build thread".

Your not wrong. Replace "build" with "project" and all's right with the world. I'm not erecting a house, just redoing a motorcycle to something else. BTW, with the exception of the Featherbed frame fitted with a Triumph/BSA/Vincent/Ariel etc engine a cafe racer was not a difficult thing to achieve. Just most riders didn't have a lot of $$$ so in the 60's a cafe was done on the cheap. Speed, the TON, was the point of the exercise nothing else.

:)parden me parden me horse power comming through i pick Drewski's h2 cause its all the way live and this cant be a white cotton glove event for a bunch of spit shined nancys

Is it to much to ask for a botm on a cafe racer web site to be fast i mean if you on a h2 the ONLY pre84 bike you gotta worrie about at a stop light is another h2 ;) or a yella rd haha

Strong second to the Kwaker. That is a beast. Saw it with my own two beady eyes and it's a heartbreaker.

I know a lot of folks just wait until the end of the month and the click on the prettiest picture, but as a few months ago, I've made it a point to read through the build thread before voting.

For me, at least, BOTM is not just a finished product. My vote goes toward the journey and not the destination. Many of us make a big deal over the words, "built, not bought", and so it would be hypocritical to not keep that in mind when making our final decisions.

But, hey... this is the Internet. There are more opinions than users. ;D
I try to do the same. But then again, we're here in Oregon where it rains all the time so we have more time to spend online as opposed to all these guys who actually get to ride. Any other actual builds, that KZ200 so far is my fav. Gonna search some brats. I'm in a bratty mood.

I'd like to nominate my brothers bike for BOTM.

Just to set the record straight, several bikes that won BOTM did not have a build thread including mine. Sure I posted a lot of aspects of the bike but it didn't have an actual soup to nuts build thread. There was a case where if I got it right, the guy bought an expensive CR style bike and arrived to show it off and sure as night follows day we fell in love with the shine and it was BOTM.

That was probably inappropriate because he really didn't build the bike IIRC and he just dropped in to get the gong and then left.

I don't have an issue with either of the two Brit bikes for different reasons. For a start both members seem to be upright members of this group and neither appears to have just dropped in hoping to get a prize.

If someone wants to change the rules or make them clearer, then I guess we speak to Mr Tim about that, but not here and not now.

So for my money (that would be zero of it LOL) they are all valid and worthy contenders. We need more pics and more info on the bikes though. :)

aw Thanks for nominating my bike:) nice brother:) once your bike is done ill nominate yours:)

Ehh. My vote always goes towards the bike that I think looks best. I built my bike but I didn't make a build thread. I didn't do anything that hadn't already been done before. If I could have bought a complete bike, or paid someone else to build it my way I sure as hell would have. I'm a mechanic 8hrs+ Mon-Fri and I'd love to never have too take my tools home. The "journey" of the build is mostly lost on me. No offense to any of you guys. Just my view and nothing more :)

Drifting a bit here - but the thread has become interesting in itself !

In the day engine swaps were either a matter of intent [ Triton, Tribsa, et al ] or a matter of neccessity - Constellation / Triumph, "Nortri" - yes that WAS a Norton [ Dommie ] motor in a Triumph frame. A pal had done the usual Triton job and needed a sidecar tug - well there were the spare Norton engine and Triumph chassis. NOT destined to become a classic, but it did the job. The Connie / Triumph ? .....don't ask!

In the meantime - I continue to be amazed at the enginuity and vision / skill of the people here

Hey Guys,
I am a relative new comer to this site and to be honest when I first posted a pic of my bike I hadn't thought anything about the BOTM and was only interested in checking out the neat creations. I only posted up to show my bike after completing the rebuild as I thought some people may have been interested in an old british bike.

I don't wish to cause any dramas and as such will withdraw my acceptance and leave the BOTM to the others, which are all works of art in their own right and all deserving of consideration in keeping with the general theme of this site.

Thanks again to those who nominated my Venom.

Cheers

Here's what I know (some of this is new info to me thanks to a couple gracious fellows here who have first hand experience;))

The Triton was first registered in 1966, presumably when it was completed by the first owner. I have UK registration docs going back to 1993. In 2008 the PO bought it and transformed it from its current Manx state to the Sprint tank/2:1/no rear fender and Dunstall front fender state. I took the alloy Sprint tank and oil tank off to be repaired and polished and put the Manx stuff back on.

The genetics of the bike:
-50's Norton Wideline Featherbed frame
-50's/early 60's Triumph Preunit engine - supposedly a Thunderbird bottom and T120 nine stud splayed head with high compression pistons and race cams . . . built not bought ;)
-Dry clutch with belt drive conversion
-Boyer Brandson electronic ignition
-Borrani rear 19" rim with twin leading shoe front hub
-Akront front 19" rim
-New Amal 930 carbs
-Manx style gas and oil tank with seat and original Norton fenders with Brtitish plates paired with swept-back headers and BSA Goldies cans
-Tank Shop alloy Sprint tank and oil tank with TA Baker II alloy seat and Dunstall front fender paired with custom stainless 2:1 exhaust
-Engine has "slickshift" and rev counting timing cover ;) which I have learned are very period correct
-Period correct stainless clip-ons and chrome headlamp ears

:)

Veloman- I was right there with you yesterday, withdraw the Triton too as I certainly appreciate the nod, but it was never my intention for posting pics of the bike. I have learned more about that bike than I could have ever researched because of a couple folks here. They know who they are and I thank them for that.

I would be disappointed if yours was withdrawn because it has my vote.
