AUGUST 2012 DO THE TON BIKE OF THE MONTH - NOMINATIONS

I think BOTM should be a build award, If not, its just about who has the coolest bike, not who stepped outside of box and made something out of nothing. I pulled my bike out of a scrap dumpster about 4months ago..... I have $1000 into it. Everything was either handmade by me, or pulled from some scrap bike.

I almost agree, but then it's likely to be just for experienced fabricators and the new boys will be left out in the cold.

I like the fact that each month we have a variety of bikes to argue over. Some from very accomplished and experienced technicians, some with minimal effort, others with huge learning curves. Some are simple, some involve very complex modifications. I wasn't wild about that Norvin a few months ago because the guy drifted in with an agenda - to get the win and drift back out again. The Velo and Triton are guys that came to the party and are staying and neither asked to be nominated.

If I buy a nice running Bike and buy a seat and tank and rear sets etc and fit them does that make me a builder (eligible) or buyer (ineligible)? We never fabricated much of anything back in the day. We bought stuff from Dunstall and Curley etc and fitted it.

We all like different things and each month we get a variety of different levels of experience and expenditure and that is all good. I like variety in everything. I wouldn't change much of anything and I'd keep the two Brit bikes.

That's just my opinion - your mileage may vary :)

I'm away from computers at the moment - how many nominees are we up to? If 5 or more then call it closed and I'll start a voting thread ASAP. As always opinions of what should or should not be a BOTM can be expressed through your vote :)

Expressing through your vote only get you a Ford. Or worse. BTW "Zed" is not ,dead along with the "u" it is very much alive in the rest of the GWN..As if u give a shite. ..My V is going to Triton.

Third it. Why 5 ,6 why not a few more. W The more the merrier. then ..My calender says it's still July for a few more days. Nominate, discuss, argue, vote for BOTM for July.. . (though the actual voting may take place in the following month if need be). Just a though. There is actually a world outside of GTA. A Maritimer at the shitty end of the cow..

I've owned a Kott Built cb500....I'd buy another in a heart beat. That 500 started first try every time for 3 years (until I sold it)...purred...then growled and pulled like most of these 750s. If this Copper Leaf 550 is anything like it...its gonna get my vote.

I take that "shoe" comment as a compliment. Ain't no shame in looking good. Peacock, Mo' Fo's!!

I can say from personal experience that it runs amazing. Starts first try and rips. Kott has helped me a bunch on my 350 also and I'm hoping to get it to rip like my bros 550 after I finish up my exhaust.

I would like to nominate this bike. I don't know who owns it or who built it or if they even have a build thread anywhere, but I do know it's a real bike and I would like to nominate it. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/09/03/kawasaki-kh750-2-stroke-triple-cafe-racer/

Can I get someone to second this? bradj??

I would but im pretty sure that it needs to at the very least belong to a member to be in the running and besides dotheton members have shown time and time again that cafe racers dont need to be fast its all show for 90% of this crowd. Cookie cutter cb's with the same thousand dollar tank, tail and universal rear sets.

Oh!!

Well maybe I can have my friend post on DTT her 2012 Thruxton she just bought . I mean she did have to drive 2 1/2 hours to go get it and don't get me started about the financing, that was a "project" on its own!!
Maybe she'll start a "build" thread and change her signal lenses from amber to smoked amber!

Before a bike gets nominated, it should have a couple of pictures and a back story......... Sometimes the story might be more intriguing then the pics

I bought my CB500 but I wouldn't have put it up for BOTM because of that fact.

If the Copper Leaf was purchased from Kott, then I believe it should NOT be nominated.

And correct me if I am wrong, but I've talked to Kott about this and he doesn't sell parts for bikes that haven't been fully built by him. He doesn't sell parts individually and I quote, "I don't sell my parts [seats and rear sets etc] because then you'll see a bike broken down on the side of the road that looks like one of mine but it ISN'T. And that's not good for business."

The bike is beautiful. But if the member didn't do the work, then it isn't eligible, IMHO...

Is it a motorcycle? Yep. Does it belong to a member here? Yep. Is it a complete running bike? Yep.

I think any criteria has been met.

Here's to a fantastic site with a very diverse set of people/motorcycles.

If you merely need to own a running motorcycle to be eligible, then so be it. Copper Leaf is eligible. No one asked if the Triton or the other owners built those bikes themselves so....

I have spoken with Veloman and he encouraged me to leave the Triton in the running so I will- not sure whether his Velo will be in there or not- I hope it is.

Thanks again for the nomination Kowalski and the second CafeRacer650.

The drama seems kinda silly though as it becomes counterproductive. If you don't agree with the nominees, don't vote or better yet, nominate a bike that you think represents all this BOTM should be and is a clear winner. Just my $.02. ;D

What ever happened to the back story we used to do? I personally don't have time to read a good build thread but the back story took care of that. It's how I always voted. If the owner didn't care to take time to do a short back story the bike simply didn't get my vote. If I want photos to jack off to I'd go down the the five and dime and buy a calendar. Pretty pictures is just that. The back story to me however, is what this site is all about and always has been. The back story would take care of a lot of the B.S. issues that come up month after month. It let's the voting members know exactly what they are voting for. Anyone agree?

your 100% wrong I mean for god sakes goto his website he has a whole section on packages you can buy which includes parts..... also if you read my thread yes dustin did some of the work and i did some of the work. he very much includes the builder which is why hes a great builder togo to. i did the initial breakdown of the bike including the engine, frame, cleanup, wiring, and the reessemble of the bike... , etc etc etc. Thats like saying someone who throws a benji tank and seat combo on there bike didnt build it.... then we are back to square one ahahahah its all good either way im just saying how it is lol
