Ok guys, as threatened the Banville Villam. Villiers 9E motor, in need of derious rebuild, bantam frame, early BSA forks (incomplete), currently A7 tank (but might build a squarish tank based on the early BSA's etc)... it just gets bizarrer and bizarrer!

Oh yes, the seat and frame are home shed fabricated.

Hey Dave, hows this project going mate? Curious to see this beauty finished ;)

Okay... so it's been quite some time since I've been on... sorry guys. Hope all is well and your projects are going the way you want them to :)
In the meantime I've spent quite a few months in bed this year with an ongoing illness and in my other time I did a custom job on my ex gf's CBR600F4 for her... the last couple months I've only just started back on my two projects... a custom cafe XS400 called "Rasputin", and a custom cafe build on a XS750 triple... which is mostly top secret because it's for the Deus Biker Build-off later this year... So, with no further-a-due, here are some pics of my XS400.. as it now sits... just awaiting some shorty reverse cone mufflers and some paint and more polishing... oh.. and a little welding too yet...

this is about where my xs250 sits atm. rearsets mounts and linkages need to be fabbed from aluminium plate, and wiring needs to be sorted. plus a stack of other stuff, chainguard, hid, reseating roller steering headset race.

Wow Chris you're on here too!? Still around? 'Tis Pete from the Brisbike days with the GS450 although you won't recognise it any more... it's nearly finished :)

And for the thread, my build:

http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=28302.0

And I'm in Qld too of course...

Hey Pete... nice to see a few more QLD'ers getting into the cafe scene... it's been mostly a Melbourne Sydney thing.. or should I say, fashion trend... good to see us picking up the mantle up here :) Maybe we will have to organise a group ride when all our projects are finished? Hmmm :D

The mock-up MDF template for mounting the SV650 calipers to the RGV forks... which are on my XS750 custom:

(and yes... the RGV forks might be a little light for a big heavy XS750... but forks were rebored and refitted with R6 Ohlins internals)
And the new Ducati Imola 750SS seat unit...

(you can see the centered Tacho on the top clamp... used an old Sportster Speedo mount for that)

Yeah I've noticed there's not too many of us around, although Hillsy lives all of 5 minutes from me. Haven't caught up with him in person yet.

I'm doing a scrambler rather than a cafe but it all counts right? ;)

A catch up when we're done would definitely be cool! Whereabouts are you? I'm in Keperra... doorway to Brissie motorcycle heaven (Mt Mee, Dayboro, Peachester etc.) ;D

One thing I regret is letting my XS750 go... had one years ago that I didn't know what to do with and got as a non-runner. Mate I knew at the time up at Ipswich was into them too and helped me find a nice straight 3 into 1 pipe, but then life got in the way, things changed, and I let him have it as I wasn't going to get to it and had nowhere to work on it... would still love to get my hands on a triple of some sort one day...

Sweet-as bro. Yeah... you're not too far from me.. I'm over Strathpine way... and there's another mate that gets on here every so often and he is over Mango-hill way.. we were toying with the idea of starting a cafe club here in Bris... But I'm yet to get around to designing the patch ;) LOL

Mmmm.. yeah... these XS750 's are nice.. mine wasn't running either and its fuct lol.. the oil filter thread snapped out of the bottom, as the some previos persom must've done it so tight that it had obviously already prob cracked... trying to undo was the final straw that broke that donkeys back  Oh.. and the last time this thing ran was prob about 15 yrs ago.. another previous onwer tried to remove an old spark plug without any penetrant oil and snapped the spark plug thread off inside the head... even the thread extractor is having a hard time getting it out... considering drilling it out to the edge of thread and attempting (very optimistically) retapping the thread LOL... *shrugs" ;D But I'm not panicking LOL.. I only need to have it finished in one month to ride to Sydney for the Deus Build-off hahaha... hmmm.... *assumes fetal position and sucks thumb* Scramblers are mad bro... go for it.. of course they count :)

I digress, a catch up with all the cafe Brissy guys would be mad dude. for sure... and yes The best loop in Bris is thru Dayboro, over Mt Mee, left thru Wammurran, left at Somerset, around the dam, up over back of Glorius, left thru Samford, then back through Dayboro for a few cold ones at the end of an awesome days ride.. ORRRR... Up thru Montville, a cpl at the Penny farthing, then down the range, around the back, around to Kennilworth, onto the Obi Obi, back up thru Maleny, and then a stop into the Celtic tea room on a Saturday arvo for devonshire Tea and scones with live irish folk music.... that's a good one a cold winters day.. as they have the fire going... it's a relaxing scene... especially sitting there in the jackets and boots scoffing a few fist-sixed scones with jam and cream mmm... with banjos and guitars and irish whistles in the background ;)

Yeah mate you're just up the road a bit! I get all my paint stuff from MPA up at Brendale there and used to live in Burpengary a few years back.

That sounds a bit like the XS I had except different issues... the one I know was I found one of the points plate bolts had come off and jammed the mechanism which is why the PO thought it had seized. And someone screwed the frame by cutting the middle section and lowering it... complete hack job! I can't weld for crap but I do better than that was done...

A month to get your XS done should be plenty of time

I didn't know about the Montville/Kennilworth/Maleny run! How's that for sad? Sounds like a good one for sure!

Good luck on the Deus build, mine definitely ain't gonna be doing that and no way could I get down there anyways... I'm sure you'll make it :D

Hey Pete ;)

Yeah... only about 20 minutes away! looking forward to getting these two builds finished and going for a ride with some other local cafe enthusiasts :D

Hmm, I managed to pick up this XS750 from Melbourne. It cost me $300 on eBay, and then another $350 to send it up on transport... LOL.. but, working or not, these are so rare.. and just to have that 750 triple sound.. and to own the only 4 stroke triple ever to come out of Japan... that's totatly worth it. I will get this thing running and rebuilt and fully customed.... I have upmost desire and belief in this bike and my ability to do it justice...

Oh.. dude, I get my paint from MPA also! The last lot of paint I ot was a 500ml of "Dark Furnace"... (2-pack), which is for the XS400 custom I'm building.. whic is "Codename: RASPUTIN". That's not far off being finished either.. just a few more welds... some, custom rearsets, some sandblasting, then some paint.... should be nice.. doing a kisck start only on it too.

Oh, also, in the meantime, spoke to Keith at Deus in Sydney, they have had to push the Deus Build-off back a few months... Sometime early next year... due to some politics/complications.. but not my place to say ;) So, the pressure is off, and that means that the extra time I have I can use to make some other mods to this bike that I originally wanted. I'm hoping to have something really unique.. it's not everyday you see an XS750... let-alone a custom one.
Hey mate, wanted to thank you for the vote of confidence also. Thanks! :D

Hmmm, it's a shame to see such a wonderful and beautiful bike like the 750 being hacked and welded dodge by some back-yarder... I mean, I love modifiying.. and I have made many changes to this 750, but I've tried to maintain the original aesthetic and most of the orinial parts... the main objective was to bring the handling, safety, and styling forward into the 21st century. I've altered the lines a little too.. I live for cafe racers, but because of my custom chopper industry background, I've tried to integrate some of those lower, leaner chopper lines into this build. a certain symmetry and synergy of classic retro cafe, with a hint of modern, and some chopper styling cues.... I guess the next few months will tell whether or not I pulled it off LOL ;D

You got any new projects mate?

p.s. When my bikes on the road, I'll take you for a run round that Montville-Kennilworth-Maleny route I mentioned ;) See if your GS can keep up with the old shafty ;D LOL. *jks... will just be nice to blow some cobwebs out 8)

Mate that's pretty good actually! I can definitely see paying that being worthwhile... I'm not typically a Yammie fan at all but the XS triples are something different altogether. Sort of like the Katana for Suzuki's in my opinion...

That's sort of along the lines of what I'm trying to do with my GS but in a different direction. I've done as much as possible to be able to go back to stock if I want to, so everything custom except the tail piece will be bolt ons and I'm not adjusting anything on the frame at all.

I'll have to hunt down your 400 thread too, sounds good!

They pushed the Dues build-off back? Wow I'll bet there's a lot of people breathing a sigh of relief on that one! Definitely should give you plenty of time for the XS though.

When I had that XS I didn't really know enough to know properly what I had... if I had it now it would be a whole different story and I'd pay someone to fix that frame properly as it wouldn't have taken much to do, but a bit beyond my welding skills. I'm definitely keen to see how yours turns out...

No new projects for me, still just the GS, unless you count the Ducati Cucciolo motor my dad just gave me, but not sure what to do with that yet...

Sounds like plan on the ride for sure! Be warned I'm not the fastest rider in the world though which is probably why I've still got a 450... haha

hey mate, Rasputin doesn't have it's own thread yet, although I should probably make one... I think it's going to turn out super nice eventually. In the meantime you can see the beginning of my Rasputin bits and pieces here:http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=11543.10

And this is what she looked like in the beginning:

Cool! Yes you should have a build thread and yes it should be nice indeed :D

I'm getting some paint on mine at the moment... no idea how it'll turn out as it's the first time I've painted, but just wait and see I guess...
