Too fast to live. Too young to die.
I was just wondering if there were an Austinites on the forums. I just moved back here from Pittsburgh, PA and bought my first bike last Friday night. I'll have my license in a couple of week, and will be trying to do as much riding as possible.

If there are any other Austin folk, we'll have to all meet up some time. I have heard that there are a few different meet ups in town. I think one on Mondays, and one on another night once a month?... or something like that anyways.

Anywho, let me know. Thanks.

Head to Lovejoys on Neches St, heaps of custom bikes there (real bikes!) and they have the MotoGP on the screen there

say g'day to Ethel on the Trumpy Scrambler for me

Lovejoy's always has a couple of nice bikes out front and they show MotoGP on Sundays. Monday nights are vintage moto night at the Draught House up north. There are usually a bunch of nice older Hondas, etc at Yellow Jacket Social Club on east 5th, where I work in the kitchen 'bout 5 nights a week. Also, check out the vintage-friendly shops in town: Revival, Limey, Horsepower farm, Deathtrap, Moto Classics -- all nice folks.

No problem at all man -- so I take it you bought that yellow RD350 on CL? It was bike of the month a ways back at another forum I frequent, really nice and clean build! In addition to all the other cool moto stuff going on, there's a pretty decent sized group of 2 stroke riders in town. Myself an a few other dudes have been wondering about that yellow bike since it popped up on CL. I'll have my '73 RD350 build done (hopefully) soon. Definitely stop by Yellow Jacket some night and we'll compare notes. I'm the dark haired skinny white dude working nights in the kitchen. Here's my build thread on the previously mentioned forum, which has no fewer than I think 7 or 8 Austin guys on it: http://www.2strokeworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=11795.0

Oh, and if you ever need any work done, Chris at Limey bikes up on Old Koenig knows his way around an RD350 real well. They're dead easy though -- odds are you can get some free help/borrow some tools/whatever when the need arises.

Man, your RD is really coming together. Love the all black motor. I can't wait to see the finished product. I actually bought the "yellow" bike off some other classifieds site. I saw it on CL, but the dude was asking way too much. He put it up on another classifieds site a few weeks later and had come down way in price, then when I went in saw it, I knew it had to be mine. I was able to talk him down a little more... and for the going prices for running bikes in Austin, I think I got a pretty reasonable deal for it. The guy I bought it from bought it from the guy who posted on the 2stroke forum in Indiana. Kind of a crazy small world I guess. So far I love this thing. I have to get legal first though (I've just be riding around my neighborhood and parking lots a bit so far). I'm scheduled for my class for the weekend of the 23rd. After that and I get the "M" on my license, nothing is stopping me.

We should definitely get a group of 2strokers together for a ride or two this season. It will be a blast. I have a buddy rebuilding his old RD as well. I think his is a 74 if I remember correctly. He's actually the guy who helped me pick up my bike. I'll stop by Yellow Jacket and those other places the first chance I get. I'm the Hairy red headed short dude with glasses and a slight gut because his wife feeds him to well.

Talk to you soon.
