Avon Road Rider AM26 - Thumbs up!

I have the AM26s ( which I posted a while back ) and come to find they're not as great as I thought . I have logged about 3k+ miles on them as of now . They are wearing well and do stick but the front universal has developed a bit of a " wobble " at high speeds . When they get hot they tend not to spin true . I thought it was maybe a bad bearing or my spokes or something but it was the tires . When they tested them they say " Up to 149mph " when I think they really meant " Up to149kmph" which is around 95-100mph . Where the start to wobble the bike and want to throw you off.
My next tire will be a Pirelli Sport Demon.

Avon is a British company. Everything will be in Imperial measurements, so, miles per hour. There's lots of guys running these with no problems, at the same or higher speeds than the 100mph where you have your problem. The rating does change when you put a tube in the tubeless tire. they have to be de-rated by a certain factor, but still shouldn't cause that kind of problem. Is it balanced well? You never had these problems with other tires on the same bike? Beads are seated well and evenly? I know I had a helluva time seating my beads on my XS400. Plenty of soapy water and plenty of air pressure.

Also, could it be something in the rear? I know loose or worn swinger bushings/bearings will give a speed wobble.

All was okay . I even checked the bike thoroughly for anything loose , had the tires computer balanced , tightened spokes, etc , etc . When everything was said and done I thought maybe the front tire was starting to cup. Nothing . What I discovered was that when the roads were cool or at night riding the bike didn't wobble . Hot days on the asphalt and I had a wobble . When the tires get hot they doesn't spin perfectly true . Maybe I got a crappy tire . All I know is my next tires are Pirellis.

How are these tires under wet conditions? My tires are just about pooched.

They're actually pretty good . Wet yellow lines are not slippery . Plus they tend not to kick shit up like some tires .

That's interesting NJ. I've pushed my Avons pretty hard and haven't noticed any wobble. Still smooth sailing for me. I guess that could be a sign of inconsistent production quality.

Represto, I had a chance to test these in a post thunderstorm situation. They handled pretty well although I kept my speeds pretty low.

LOVE my avons... LOVE 'em. They've got about 2k miles on them and they still make my bike handle sooo sweetly. I've noticed no high speed wobble in mine. In my opinion, the best tire for the price for my bike. When they wear out, I'll buy another set.

I think any manufacturer can have a few duds slip through I know I bought a set of perellis a few years back and same thing it was a misaligned ply in the tire. just enough to through the weight off balance at 70 to 80 mph annoying. I am really glad I went with my avon's but, you should contact the manufacturer and see if anything can be done. can't hurt
