Back after two years! Same problem with carbs causing decel stutter.

Some of you may remember be for my 500T under tail setup that pissed off a bunch of people

Its been two years, first a car accident left me with two broken wrists then medical school consumed my life for the last year. Im back home for the summer and yesterday I blew a thick layer of dust off the old bike. Now Im still left with carbs that baffle me. Put a set of CB450 pipes on for some back pressure, put the filter housings back on and put new elements in them, tracked down a set of factory jets but still have a stutter on decel.

Anywho, heres some pics from yesterday. Its good to be back and this time with some cash in my pocket and a two car garage for my toys!

dieseling is more likely to be timing, though it's probably still a good idea to go thru things to be sure. You might also look for vacuum leaks as that can cause some pretty high temps in the combustion chamber. Valve faces glowing red hot can ignite fuel....

I kinda miss the big long mufflers on your bike .....

+1 on the timing, start with the easy stuff first. but also go ahead and check other stuf for the hell of it since it sat for a good minute or two.

Ill check the timing tonight. I did kind of like the long sweeping mufflers too. I originally bought the CB450 pipes and mufflers for $30 shipped off of ebay thinking I would just ditch the shorties that came with the head pipes because I wanted to lose the center pressure equalizer that the 500 twins came with. When the 450 pipes came in the mail I realized that the mufflers were welded to the pipes and I really didnt feel like cutting them loose at the time.

Time will tell, either way the pipes will get prepped, painted, and wrapped shortly.

I have never seen that many 500 twins around any bike forums. I don't know why they are so rare. I kinda feel bad for hoarding a ton of parts like I have been doing : )

I have a perfectly clean dark cherry red 500t tank waiting to go on as well.
