Barnett Clutch Kit CB360

The Red Wonder

Been Around the Block
I am in the market for a new clutch. The Barnett catalog lists there only being 6 Kevlar clutch discs included...I know that I pulled 8 out of mine. It makes sense as well becuase there are 7 metal plates, you wouldn't want a metal plate rubbing up on some other metal. My question is, has anyone purchased one of these and do they come with all 8 plates, or only 6?

It is also a little odd how the year range that it says it fits is only for the newer years, I wouldn't imagine Honda to change something like a clutch for only 1 or 2 years. Anyone have any experience? Thanks!

Hey!

For what I know... Barnett is the SHIT! cluth kit are doing awsome work.

Are they are really open to questions so ask them about that kit :) But usualy they're spot on as for the number of plate :).

See ya.

Barnett plates are usually thicker than stock so you use less.
Personally, I wouldn't bother, $15.00 for a set of clutch springs from Boretech is probably all you need

Really?! If I am completely rebuilding the engine, it seems silly not replace something as common as a clutch. And compared to how much the overall project will be, $150 seems a like a small price to pay. I know that the clutch is easily replaceable, but the with everything apart, now seems like the time to do it.

Thanks for the help though! I think this is the info that I needed, it seems strange that they would use larger plates, but I guess they do.

Suggest that you measure your plates and springs and see how they compare with stock sizes. Clutches don't often wear out plates unless they have been abused/raced or are really old.

Barnett make great plates though they have a reputation for being "grabby" when cold.

+1 on that. I used to run Barnett's all the time years ago. Grabby when cold? Oh hell yea! If you didn't ride the bike everyday they were even worse! I'd have to roll down the driveway, kick the bike into gear and blip the throttle to get the damn clutches to let loose!

These days, the stock clutches are so good that I usually only upgrade the springs.

I've been eyeing up the Barnett clutch kits for my 350 as well. Talking to another member on here, he mentioned that back in the day he used to just lightly DA sand the stock plates with 80 grit and put a spark plug washer behind the springs to get more grip on his 350 and 450 drag bikes. Food for thought.

i have one... you wouldnt believe how much stickier they are then stock plates... havent ridden it yet, but already i can tell they are going to grip way harder.

with the new springs... ill be surprised if the clutch does anything BUT grab.

I contacted Barnett and they were quick to get back to me:

"Cory, you are correct, our listing is wrong......

The CB/CL360 models , all years, take 8 Frictions #301-48-10001 and 7 steels #401-35-047002. They
do use the #501-66-04010 springs (set of 4)
We will correct our website, right away, and our catalog at next printing.
The CJ360T should be under a different column. It uses less plates and they are a different part number.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Barnett's"

I find it kind of strange that I am the first one to pick up on this...o well. I measured the plates, and as PJ guessed, they are still right at spec. They must have been overbuilt for the bike, because with 14k miles on the motor when I got it, I find it hard to believe that these things haven't even had a .001" shaved off of them. Then again, the clutch could have been replaced before it sat for the past 25 years, I don't know. So a set of springs is all that I will buy, woo saved some money, thanks PJ!
