I have a '76 kz900 that i am trying to cafe. I removed the battery and replaced it with a capacitor. A few days later on a normal ride, my ignition coil burnt out and melted. I replaced both of them went on a ride and the bike cut out and now it son't start. Any advice? My points aren't burnt, the coils were brand new.

are you still running the capacitor? I am guessing that somehow your coil is getting too much power b/c of an incorrectly wired capacitor/alternator set up.

The capacitor should work fine. Its likely that the regulator has failed out of pure malice.

Seroiusly we do see a number of problems after fitting a battery eliminator and whats been happening is the battery has been masking the fault.

A battery will soak up more power from an over charging regulator, or hide an undercharging one for a period of time. With no battery the fault is no longer hidden.

Its not the eliminator that causes the problems as when a the regulator is replaced the problems go and the system works as normal. Use a volt meter to see what voltage you get with the lights on/off with the engine at 3,000 rpm. Should be no more the 14.5 volts.
